Weekly Sales 10/20/10

Lil Wayne managed to snag the number one spot on the charts despite being behind bars with his new project, I Am Not A Human Being.  He sold 102,000 copies this week putting him at 259,000.  I bet his downloads are well over a million though.  Eminem is still sitting up top at number 5 while Bruno Mars, Trey Songs and Waka Flocka are all in the top 25.  Check the top

I guess Black Milk’s Album of the Year fell out of the top 200 after just a week.  Damn shame seeing as how he has one of the best albums of the year.  Eminem looks like he will definitely hit triple platinum this year.  I wonder what Lil Weezy’s new(WACK) album, I Am Not A Human Being will sell.  I’m sure he will sell over 100k maybe 200.

Weekly Sales

Several new releases hit the charts last week but only one managed to make a big splash.  Trey Songz new album, Passion Pain and Pleasure sold 240K in its first week and is sitting at number 2 on the charts.  Eminem is right behind him with 89K sold this week.  The other usual suspects are still sitting in the 15-30 range.  Check it out

Battle of the Sexes

LUUUUUUUDAAAAA!!!!!!!

It’s been about a year or so since Ludacris dropped his last album, Theatre of the Mind, which had some pretty nice tracks with production from DJ Premier and 9th Wonder.  Luda’s new project, Battle of the Sexes was originally supposed to be a guys vs girls record with Shawna.  I’m not sure what happened to that but the album still has the same theme and features hip hop’s first ladies, including a few features from Shawna.  Luda’s single How Low has become one of the most annoying songs on the radio due to the hi pitched, squeeler voice on there but I can’t lie, I still enjoy it.  The video is pretty hilarious as well.  I can’t say I was excited to listen to Battle of the Sexes but I was a little curious.  Today I made it through all 15 tracks.  In true Luda fashion, it’s a Luda album.  There are definitely standout joints which will undoubtably invade the airwaves.  Luda showcases his rhyme skills and although his punchlines are very obvious at times, his flow and entertainment value remains high.  I think Battle of the Sexes will accomplish exactly what it was supposed to do. GET LUDA MORE BITCHES.  Pardon my french but isn’t that the point??????  The Intro is pretty slick with an 8-Ball sampled hook, I believe, Sex Room with Trey Songz will for sure be your girlfriends favorite freak em song and suprisingly enough, Flo Rida didn’t do half bad on his feature.  I can’t say that I will be bumping this album steadily but it wasn’t a bad listen and like I said, it will definitely accomplish it’s mission.  I can’t lie though, I miss Luda’s street anthems and smoking songs.  As a matter of fact here is Blueberry Yum Yum, one of the illest Luda songs ever.  Oh yea, Luda clowns Tiger in his joint Sexting(which is the WORST word combination of all time, I have been calling it Textual Intercourse for YEARS).  If I were Luda, I would watch out for Tiger because he WILL steal your bitches Luda.

I have never seen this video before but LORD have mercy.  That is a lot of chronic, for medicinal purposes I am assuming.  Here is the track list as well.

01. Intro
02. How Low
03. My Chick Bad f. Nicki Minaj
04. Everybody Drunk f. Lil Scrappy
05. I Do It All Night
06. Sex Room f. Trey Songz
07. I Know You Got a Man f. Flo Rida
08. Hey Ho f. Lil Kim & Lil Fate
09. Party No Mo’ f. Gucci Mane
10. B.O.T.S. Radio f. I-20
11. Can’t Live With You f. Monica
12. Feelin’ So Sexy
13. Tell Me a Secret f. Ne-Yo
14. My Chick Bad (rmx) f. Diamond, Trina & Eve
15. Sexting(Tiger Woods Diss)

Successful?????

drake-rapper-4

Look how many bitches are in the crowd!!!!  Didn’t Kanye say he will “make sure these light skinned guys never come back in style?”

I was reading an article on Hip Hop Dx over the weekend about Drake and his place in hip hop, whether it not it is deserved and it it is a good thing for hip hop.  The author brought up a lot of interesting points.  He feels that Drake’s cross-over appeal and women pleasing sound is a problem for hip hop.  He feels Drake “demaculinates” hip hop.  I guess appealing to the bitches ain’t cool.  He goes on to say that Drake has a “good guy/mama’s boy” persona that takes off the edge that hip hop was built on.  He says Drake is not a unique voice and that he is easily copied and duplicated.  I can’t say I agree with everything that dude is saying because who is he to say what hip hop is supposed to be.  If that were the case, you could say that Andre 3000 wearing wigs and football pads isn’t hip hop despite him being one of the best rappers ever.  Aside from the fact that I give A LOT of people A LOT of shit, it is not my place to call something hip hop or not.  I only have ONE request and that is, whatever your sounds, niche, gimmick, flow, etc. is, simply DO IT WELL.  I would never say that a guy like Soulja Boy or Gucci Mane is NOT hip hop, I just think that they are terrible but I guess they have their place.  I wish cats like Jay-Z, Kanye or Nas would go in on these dudes until they step their shit up but their music is what it is.  Drake, although I am not the biggest fan, has some dope records.  I don’t think that he deserves his spot at the top of hip hop’s elite, simply for a couple mixtapes and a hit single but the industry is this way because labels, radios, blogs, fans AND artists allowed it to be so.  You can be famous nowadays for ONE song or ONE mixtape.  Artist’s don’t even know what an album should sound like any more.  Cats settle for the quick hit, rather than the career.  I think it is hard to point fingers at a cat like Drake because I truly believe that he is just doing what we wants to do.  Now, whether or not people are a fan is one thing but I don’t think Drake being at the top is a problem.  I think the problem is that Drake can be at the top with one song and one mixtape.  Where are the greatest emcees alive?  They didn’t check this cat????? No wait, Lil Wayne was too busy getting his verses written by Drake.  Therein, lies another problem.  I would like you all to read this article because he gives Kid Cudi more props than Drake, which to me ruins every point this guy is trying to make.  Kid Cudi has ONE song, ONE mixtape and major cosigns EXACTLY like Drake.  To me, they are the same type of artist, Cudi is just not as nice on the mike.  Enough of my babble for the afternoon, enjoy another beautiful Monday and make sure you read this article and share your comments.  I included the new video from Drake and Trey Songz, Successful.  This seems to be everyone’s favbrite song nowadays.  What is your vision of success????

The Proof is in the Pudding

Drake

Now first off, let me say that I like Drake and I think that dude is definitely talented.  Drake is maybe the only artist that I have seen, who hasn’t dropped an album that is headlining national tours and EVERYONE knows all his words.  I mean dude STILL hasn’t finalized his deal.  So before I come off as a hater, shout out to Drake.  Especially for representing Toronto and shedding a little light on their music scene.  Canada has really dope artists but never get the attention they deserve(see Kardinal Offishall).  Now back to Drizzy Drake.  With cosigns from Lil Wayne, Kanye and now Jay-Z,  there is simply NO WAY Drake can fail.  With that being said, the hype seems just a LITTLE too much.  He has one of the hottest songs in the country with Best I Ever Had and manages to stand out among of team of autotuned slouches on Young Money’s female anthem, Every Girl.  I have been screaming this for a while now that Drake, although every talented, is overrated.  I know dude has been on his grind for a while now but he is being placed at the forefront of mainstream hip hop for what reason?  So Far Gone is a mixtape that plays much like an album, I agree and maybe if he had a deal it would have been an album but c’mon people, Drake is NOT that ill.  Am I the only one that thinks he sounds exactly like Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Trey Songz(minus the most annoying attributes of all three).  He definitely knows how to write a song and I actually like his R & B shit better than his hip hop shit but there is seemlingly no depth to Drake’s lyrics.  Case in point, Drake’s joint, which is apparently old, features Phonte and Elzhi over a 9th Wonder production.  Looks like Drake’s comes in third.  Anyways, I won’t make any more judgement calls about Drake until his album drops but he is NOT the nicest dude in hip hop right now.  I guess the ladies really do run shit though cuz they LOVE them some Drake.  Dope song though.

Drake featuring Phonte and Elzhi-Think Good Thoughts produced by 9th Wonder

Phonte sings too!!!!!!!!! Probably better than Drake.
