West Coastin’

In honor of the NBA All Star festivities this weekend in LA, me and my buddy, Todd, held our second Beards, Beats and Brews Battle at the house on Saturday.  To serve as a backdrop for the Three Point Contest, Skills Challenge and Dunk Contest, we both compiled playlist consisting of nothing but West Coast music.  It was pretty awesome listening to nothing but West Coast bangers all night.  I had a great time compiling a playlist of some of my favorites and hearing them on the loudspeakers.  I decided to keep the party going into Sunday and today and trimmed my 130 song playlist to around 30 songs so I could listen in the car.  Needless to say, I’m still West Coastin’ all day despite the snow falling in Chicago.  I figured I would share a few of my favorite joints from my playlist/CD.  Check out some of my favorite West Coast songs of all time.  The playlist is still a work in progress but it has some unbelievable songs on it right now.  Happy Monday.

Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon “Kush” Music Video

Maybe Detox is actually coming out.  Kush kind of jams.  Dr. Dre’s jacket looks a little tight though.  Shout out to Dr. Dre!!!!! Give us Detox already!!!!!!!!!

Guess it won’t play on my site.  I don’t have permission.  Click anyone and watch it on youtube.  The video is pretty sick!!!!!!!

You Need This Music

I was reading a little article with Nottz on HipHopDx this morning and it got me pretty excited for his album, You Need This Music, which is supposed to drop sometime this year.  Nottz is one of my favorite producers out.  He is one of the only cats who seems to have the ability to work with cats like Kanye, R. Kelly, Snoop, Rah Digga and Little Brother.  His beats are always fresh and different.  I wasn’t aware that he was a rapper and was putting out an album until I saw his video for Shine So Brite.  The joint is really dope.  He followed it up with a video and a song called Cars which is equally as fresh.  I’m exactly sure when they album is going to drop but I WILL be bumping it for sure.  Another exciting and interesting piece of information is that Nottz was supposed to do an album with the late, great J Dilla.  He produced a track called Diamonds for Dilla from his album, Pay Jay, which never dropped but hit the net last year.  Diamonds is one of my favorite Dilla joints ever and to hear Nottz did the track was really cool.  For everyone NOT familiar with Nottz, check his credentials.  Dude is amazing.  Here are the videos for Shine So Brite and Cars, as well as a few other Nottz produced joints that I love.  Happy Monday

Hollow Bones

Wu Tang

It pained me this morning to take the new Raekwon album out of my tapedeck, so I opted for the next best thing, some old Wu.  I can’t post Raekwon’s album every day for the next two months even though it will be listening to it that relgiously.  I’m going to attempt to memorize every word on the album including skits.  Deck’s verse on Black Mozart is my SHIT.  I got the first 2 bars down pat.  Okay, enough about OBFCL2, this morning I put in The Wu’s 3rd album, The W.  I can’t say that I like every song on this album but there are some incredible joints, Hollow Bones being my favorite at the moment.  I’m actually going back to listen a lot of Wu shit just to hear the production.  Rza is the fucking man.  The W has several classic joints and some awkward features too like Snoop Dogg!!!!!!!!!!!  I’m not sure why that happened but Snoop didn’t do too bad.  The Nas and Redman features are really dope though.  I promise I’ll get off this Wu Tang kick by December unless Ghostface drops a classic but I’m not expecting much from his album seeing how it is all about females.  I guess beaches need love too, I’m just not so sure about the features.  I heard Ron Browz is on there.  That is unfortunate.  Ghost doesn’t need that.  Anyway, Hollow Bones for that ass.

Speaking of Redman, peep these new Redman Adidas.  I wouldn’t rock them but they are kind of tough.  The shirt is REAL ill though.  Shout out to Redman.

Distant Relatives

Nas and Damian Marley

I stumbled upon some wonderfully, great news today on Hip Hop DX.  The trackl ist for the album, Distant Relatives from two of music’s icons, Nas and Damian Marley was released and the album looks INCREDIBLE.  With features like Erykah Badu, K’Naan, Snoop Dogg AND Stevie Wonder, Distant Relatives is sure to be one of the best albums to come out in a few years.  Stephen and Damian handle the majority of the production BUT 9th Wonder worked on a joint as well.  If you can’t tell how I excited I am, let me know you, I am SUPER geeked.  Check out the track list.

Cuz An Eastside Party Ain’t No Joke

The Twinz

I’ve never been to an eastside party “well, perhaps but I was so engulfed in the Ol E I never made it to the door,” but I’m sure they are the shit.  The Twinz and Snoop made me want to live in the LBC for a long time.  They made it seem like the greatest place on earth.  I got to figure out how to make Topeka, Kansas sound as cool as Long Beach.  Last night, I was in a session with Phys Ed, listening to new beats, going over new songs and listening to samples and he played the original sample for The Twinz, Eastside LB.  We started talking about The Twinz and he pulled out a CD booklet and blessed me with an ORIGINAL compact disc of the The Twinz, Conversation.  Needless to say(but I’m saying it anyway), I’m jamming The Twinz ALL DAMN DAY.  I was really heavy into the west coast music back in “the day” and The Twinz had one of those albums that kind of flew under the radar but I used to listen to a lot.  Pretty much anything Death Row touched or was a part of the G Funk sound, I used to listen to tough.  The west coast was putting out incredible music for a while.  Today is definitely highlighted by the feel good music of The Twinz, Warren G and the G Funk sound.  If you’re not familiar with The Twinz, Clinton Sparks yourself.  The west coast has soooooooooo much good music.  Here is the official video for The Twinz Eastside LB.  You can expect The Twinz to resurface again on my site.
