BET Cyphers 2011

Man, glad lyrics are being brought to the mainstream.  Shout out to the whole Shady family and of course, Big KRIT and Kendrick.  Glad to see Tech N9ne getting shine too! Everyone kinda killed their verses.  Now if BET and MTV would put some music back on TV.

Man Em is out of control! I wanna hear that new album with Dre.

In case you haven’t heard, Eminem and Shady Records announced two big acquisitions to their label and announced the signings this week. Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf will now be joining Eminem’s roster. CRAZY. There were a bunch of rumors about Slaughterhouse signing last year but Yelawolf came as a pleasant surprise. I’m real excited to see what Yelawolf will do now with Shady and Interscope behind him. Sounds like things will get a little crazy. In light of this signing, I wanted to share a couple of videos from Shady Records signees, Cashis and Obie Trice. Cashis has a joint called Lac Motion several years back that was SICK. Of course, everyone knows Obie Trice, dude is sick too. Also, here are a couple Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse videos to get wet your whistle. Happy Friday!!!!!!!!!

Signed, Sealed and Delivered

shyne

Two of hip hop’s dopest emcees supposedly just signed new deals.  Shyne, who was released from prison today after 8 years apparently signed to Black Wall Street the same day as his release.  Royce Da 5’9″ has also apparently signed to Shady.  I’m not sure what will come out of Shyne’s deal but I can only hope he actually gets to put out music.  I think with this new digital age, the demand for a project, at least for the internet/streets will result in a project soon.  I am just happy Shyne didn’t REsign to Bady Boy.  Royce’s signing comes in perfect time, right before his album Street Hop which is scheduled to drop October 20th.  From the sound of things, Royce’s new album is going to FUCKING AMAZING.  DJ Premiere is the executive producer so you can imagine how ill that shit is gonna be.  Shout out to both cats for signing their deals.  Hopefully these aren’t just rumors.  The next deal will definitely be Slaughterhouse on Shady.  I look forward to that as well.  Here is some classic Shyne and of course the Royce track Dinner Time in the previous post.

The Undergods

Undergods

To the surprise of many, two veteran emcees linked up to form a group call The Undergods.  Canibus and Keith Murray, who have been very quiet as of lately, took a page from Slaughterhouse’s book and teamed up to form a super group.  They drop an EP yesterday to give the world a taste of what they are coming with.  This whole project caught me offguard but I was pretty anxious to hear it.  I got a copy last night and listened to it this morning.  I am a fan of both cats especially Canibus but this project feels a little rushed.  The production’s not bad but most of the hooks are just wack.  Having said that, the rhymes are on point and Canibus is a monster.  I don’t really like the dynamic of these two cats together but they don’t sound terrible together.  I just think their styles are way too different to make a solid group.  I think Slaughterhouse as a group is a little tighter but even those cats sounds a little off on a whole album together.  I will definitely be looking forward to the album dropping next year to see if they can actually make it work.  I definitely think people should check out the EP but I wouldn’t expect more than some dope ass rhymes.  The first track and the last track are the highlights for me.  There are a couple surfacing trends in hip hop right now, one being sequels and the other being supergroups and neither seem to work out very well.  Check out The Undergods joint featuring Crooked I, Die Big Time and 129.

It’s dope to hear Erick Sermon doing his thing on the production tip.  His joint on Raekwon’s album is ill too.

Salute

Slaughterhouse

I’m starting to feel like groundhog day.  Another beautiful day at the beach, yesterday was amazing.  I tried clam chowder for the first time and loved it.  I also had some crab cakes, lobster mash potatoes and calamari.  Needless to say, yesterday was amazing.  I finally got a chance to listen to the majority of Slaughterhouse’s new album.  I want to listen to it several more times but so far it sounds pretty dope.  Definitely the way Slaughterhouse needed to come out.  I am always nervous about projects like this because usually the beat selections and the hooks are horrible but Slaughterhouse managed to balance four talented emcees and choose dope beats.  My favorite joint so far is Salute with Pharoahe Monch.  Pharoahe kills the hook and of course Slaughterhouse brings it.  The track is produced by StreetRunner who produces a few tracks on the album.  Make sure you buy the Slaughterhouse album when it drops but check it out in the meantime.  Who is your favorite emcee in Slaughterhouse???    Do you think Slaughterhouse will drop a sophomore album???

Slaughterhouse The One Official Video

Slaughterhouse

One of the anticipated groups in hip hop history, Slaughterhouse, just released their first video from the debut album, The One.  The song is produced by DJ Khalil, who is an ABSOLUTE BEAST.  This track features all 4 emcees spitting flames.  It’s incredible to see a group like this much attention and buzz.  The album should be out soon, so stay tuned for a lyrical onslaught.  Crooked I is THAT DUDE!!!!!!

JUST IN!!!!!

Here is the official Artwork for the debut album.

A Tall Glass for Joe Budden

Tahiry

First off, I like Joe Budden as a rapper but I’m not a huge fan of his music.  His first album was actually pretty dope and very underrated but he hasn’t lived up to his potential since.  Recently, he has made a name for himself(via big booty Tahiry) with videos of him running off at the mouth and dissing everyone.  The question “Who hasn’t Joe Budden dissed?” arises often.  After Vibe magazine published a hypothetical “Rap Battle” ranking various emcees and placing them in brackets tournament style, Budden let his mouth get a little ahead of him and dissed Method Man.  He caught a lot of flack from Meth, Red and Busta Rhymes even said Budden needed to be slapped(hahaha).  Apparently he talked it out with Raekwon and Busta and everything is cool but Inspectah Deck just released a diss record going pretty hard on Budden.  Budden, OF COURSE, had to respond by saying some shit that he’s gonna give it to Deck just for fun.  I’m not saying that Budden won’t come hard at Deck but it seems to me that Budden needs to drink an EXTRA tall glass of SHUT THE FUCK UP and focus on making some music.  If he is as NICE as he says he is then making dope records shouldn’t be a problem.  However, his recent track record speaks a little differently than Budden does on camera.  He is part of one of the most vicious groups in hip hop but he is only the 3rd nicest one in his own group.  I think it is time for Budden to turn the camera off(or only show Tahiry), turn the other cheek and make some decent music.  He put out a dope record call Who, about what and who killed hip hop, that was like 10 minutes long but since then Budden dropped a WACK album and has done nothing but irritate people.  Maybe that is what he is going for but STOP dissing legends and focus on being better than Ortiz because right now Royce and Crooked are KILLING him.  Where is that slap that Busta offered dude?????

The Revival

The Revival

“I’m Lindsey Lohan call me firecrotch”

Monday is over and a brand new EP landed in my lap last night, Royce Da 5’9″ The Revival EP.  This project has been getting a lot of buzz on your “favorite” blogs and sites especially in light of the Slaughterhouse project.  I ran it all the way through two times this morning and honestly it is amazing.  The production is dope(which seems to be the biggest criticism of cats like Royce) and OF COURSE the rhymes are bananas.  The joint with Slaughterhouse, Warriors, might be their best joint to date.  Crooked I is my new favorite rapper.  I don’t know who dude was listening to or competing with out there on the West Coast but THAT DUDE is seriously amazing.  I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of Joell or Buddens but both dudes are definitely nice.  Joell definitely has some quotables and Buddens is no slouch either.  So instead of just bragging about the EP and rubbing it in your faces, I want everyone to enjoy The Revival with me.  It’s only four tracks long but all four tracks are really ill.  If this is the quality that Royce and Slaughterhouse are planning on releasing music, then BOTH projects are going to be incredible.  Royce might actually revive hip hop a little.
