Black Milk “Deadly Medley” Featuring Royce Da 5’9″ and Elzhi

Here is a lesson for all the rappers out there, including myself.  Listen closely and take notes.  Deadly Medley

These are three of the sickest cats out and Black Milk’s production is always crazy.  Black Milk’s new album, Album of the Year is set to drop on September 14th and will probably deserve a purchase from everyone out there.  I think you can all look forward to a Black Milk/Mike Murder track in the works.

The Blueprint

I know I have probabley been dubbed a “Jay Hater” by now but I want to let everyone know that I FUCKS WITH JAY.  I just hold him to a very high standard after Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint and The Black Album.  Jay has “The Blueprint” of a rap career in terms of success, longevity, credibility and albums.  His career is what every rapper hopes to have when they pick up a mike.  His Kanye and Just Blaze produced album(with help from Timbaland, Trackmasters and others, The Blueprint is a shining example of Jay’s skills.  This album is the reason why I became a fan.  I was snoozing on Jay for a long while until I saw his Unplugged with The Roots, then checked The Blueprint and I became a fan.  I feel like this is the album that solified Jay in everyone hip hopper’s heart from backpacker to mainstream.  The production is really dope, the beef with Nas was one of hip hop’s most notorious and Jay shows he can spit with the best of Em, even though Em did serve him on his own song.  Renegade is really an Eminem song if you ask me.  Check the Royce Da 5’9″ version.  Anyway, one of these weeks or two, I am going to listen to all of Jay’s albums in chronological order, similiar to the Gorilla Zoe challenge but a lot less painful.  Happy Friday to all and enjoy some classic shit from rap’s biggest and most consistent superstar, the god emcee, Jay-Z.

Bar Exam 3: The Most Interesting Man

The new music barrage is still in full force, this time with MY most anticipated project, Royce Da 5’9″ Bar Exam 3.  Perfect titled, The Most Interesting Man, Royce brings his third installment of his Bar Exam series and slaps everyone across their face with a fat dick.  No homo.  I’ve been waiting for some ill ass bars for a while from Royce and naturally, he delivers.  I’m still not a fan of mixtapes(including my own) but if your going to rap on other people’s beats, THIS is how you need to do it.  Royce spazzes for twenty-some songs, sounding as sharp as ever.  My favorite song is the anti-tight jeans song, I Hate Your Pants.  It is quite possibly the funniest shit EVER.  Royce’s little brother, Kid Vishis is sounding real sharp too.  Bun B even drops an ILL ass verse on Nobody Fuckin Wit Us.  I’m looking forward to see what else Royce can bring to the table this year.  He will definitely be in the running for best mixtape of the year.  Check out Nobody Fuckin With us featuring Bun B and Crooked I, who is quickly becoming one of my favorites.  Also, here is a download link for the whole tape.  stolen from NahRight.  Enjoy.

Leftovers

It’s going to be a short work week but hopefully a LONG holiday season for everyone to finish out 2009.  I couldn’t imagine starting the week any better than with a new mixtape from one of the nicest dudes to ever bless a mike, eLZhi.  My man Vanysh sent me a link to Elzhi’s mixtape, The Leftovers Unmixedtape on Friday and pretty much made the rest of my year.  I can’t believe that I wasn’t already on to this mixtape but shout out to Vanysh for blessing me with some more heat by Elzhi.  The mixtape features unreleased tracks as well as features and joints from other people’s projects.  As if I need to say anything, the mixtape is incredible.  Elzhi has had an incredible last two years with Europass, The Preface and now another classic.  It’s hard to really pick a favorite because I am still digesting it all but I love Deep, Glow and of course Colors Remix from DJ Spinna’s album.  Everyone should go over to Elzhi.com immediately and download the tape.  I got more brand new heat tomorrow to bring everyone as well.  Happy Monday.

Album Sales 10/28/2009

It is a sad, sad day people and by sad I mean VERY sad.  The weekly album sales are in and Royce Da 5’9″, who is one of the biggest names on the blogs/websites/internet, etc moved about as many units Mack 10.  Wait a minute, does that even make sense?  I’m kinda confused because Lil Boosie dropped an album or mixtape and sold damn near DOUBLE the amount that Royce sold.  Kid Cudi is STILL moving more units than Royce.  I can’t say that I’m surprised but I am more so just disappointed and lost.  Drake is still going strong, Jay sold another 45K and the Black Eyed Peas are still doing the same.  Peep.

Street Hop

“This is Street Hop, No Rules”

Ever since The Bar Exam 2, I have been anxiously awaiting Royce Da 5’9″ to release his next album.  He emerged from jail and back on the hip hop scene with more fury and fire than ever especially after forming Slaughterhouse.  I was fortunate enough to get a copy of Royce’s new album, Street Hop on Monday evening and have a couple days to let it marinate.  Unfortunately, I have been so busy with my new music I have listened to the album more than once all the way through but Street Hop definitely provides a lot of what I was hoping for.  He has had several leaks from the album, including the 4 tracks on his Revival EP so I felt like I knew what to expect from Street Hop.  Royce doesn’t doesn’t disappoint.  Street Hop is one of the most solid albums of 2009, as expected.  However, there are a few tracks that could have been cut.  Bad Boy being one of them because of the awkward “Jamaican” accent Royce uses to try to match the sample/hook of the song.  The sample is the shit though.  I have been listening to the original for well over a year.  I was hoping for more premier tracks as well but the production, rhymes and most of the hooks are on point.  I’m still giving album of the year to Raekwon but Royce is definitely up there.  Street Hop is better than Slaughterhouse’s album for sure.  Make sure on October 20th that you go out and purchase your copy of Street Hop.  Let’s not have another Skyzoo showing.  Shout out to Royce for coming back sharper than ever.  I think he is one of the nicest dudes in the game period.  Here are the videos for Shake This and Part of Me.  Both dope ass songs and videos.

Don’t forget to watch my new video, Sucka MCs and share your thoughts.

The Bar Exam

thebarexam

It’s starting to feel like winter time in Chicago which is making getting up and coming to work that much harder especially on Mondays.  Maybe that’s just me.  Over the weekend, I came across of Royce Da 5’9″s first installment of The Bar Exam hosted by DJ Premier and Statik Selectah.  I couldn’t wait to listen because of how incredible The Bar Exam 2 was.  I’ve been listening to it since Saturday and I am definitely hooked.  The tape starts out exactly how it should and Royce proves exactly why he is one of the nicest dudes on the mike.  He rips tracks like Nas Is Like, Feelin It and Gone making them sound as new and as fresh as ever.  I’m telling you, October 20th, Street Hop is going to be FIERCE.  If Royce continues to come with it like he has been, Street Hop will definitely be in the top 5 albums of 2009.  Peep Dinner Time and the October 20th tracks I posted previously.  If your still not a believer here is Royce MURDERING Kanye’s track Gone.  That move to Shady is only going to spell trouble for A LOT of cats.  I bet Eminem is fired up that he got left off MTV’s Hottest Rappers in the game after dropping Relapse.

Signed, Sealed and Delivered

Two of hip hop’s dopest emcees supposedly just signed new deals.  Shyne, who was released from prison today after 8 years apparently signed to Black Wall Street the same day as his release.  Royce Da 5’9″ has also apparently signed to Shady.  I’m not sure what will come out of Shyne’s deal but I can only hope he actually gets to put out music.  I think with this new digital age, the demand for a project, at least for the internet/streets will result in a project soon.  I am just happy Shyne didn’t REsign to Bady Boy.  Royce’s signing comes in perfect time, right before his album Street Hop which is scheduled to drop October 20th.  From the sound of things, Royce’s new album is going to FUCKING AMAZING.  DJ Premiere is the executive producer so you can imagine how ill that shit is gonna be.  Shout out to both cats for signing their deals.  Hopefully these aren’t just rumors.  The next deal will definitely be Slaughterhouse on Shady.  I look forward to that as well.  Here is some classic Shyne and of course the Royce track Dinner Time in the previous post.
