Nevermind

Today’s theme music is actually Friday’s “Classic Shit” but because I am a slacker I’m killing two birds with one stone.  I went in a different direction for this week’s Classic and ventured into the Grunge world with the late great, Curt Cobain and Nirvana’s breakout album, Nevermind.  I am sure everyone remembers the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit.  It pretty much dominated MTV and radio for a while.  I was on the way to the studio last thursday night and put in an old rock mix CD I made several years back and figured I would listen to Nirvana’s classic album, Nevermind.  I know a handful of the songs on the album but don’t remember the whole album.  I must say, not being a big rock fan or having any real knowledge about rock music, I definitely enjoyed Nevermind.  It brought me back to the early 90′s when I was kid.  I’m going to start listening to more classic albums from other genres for Classic Shit Fridays so stay tuned for that.  In the meantime, check out the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit.  Happy Monday.  RIP Curt Cobain

The Other Side

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Yesterday had me feeling inspired to continue stepping away from hip hop for a few days, so last night I downloaded “legally” a bunch of rock music.  I got some Nirvana, The Doors, Sublime and some Red Hot Chili Peppers.  This morning I decided to listen to Californication from RHCP.  One of the fondest memories I have about this album is from senior year in high school.  We put together a video called ManJam Volume 1 and my guy Logan used Around The World from Californication for the field sledding montage.  One of my favorite joints from Californication is  Otherside.  It used to get steady rotation in my 88 Corolla.  I also downloaded Blood Sugar Sex Magik last night too but I tend to favor Californication even though BSSM has arguably my favorite song of all time, Under The Bridge.  I was reading about Californication this morning and apparently Rick Rubin did some production on the album.  If you are not familiar with Rick Rubin, READ UP!!!!!!  Red Hot Chili Peppers are really ill because they have a lot of different musical influences including funk.  It just gives them a whole different vibe.  I also like how the bass player, Flea can be seen wearing a diaper on occasion.  I wonder if he really poops his pants while he is on stage.  Check out one of my favorite Chili Peppers’ joints  Otherside.  I highly recommend Californication as well.
