I don’t have much to say other than this is an AMAZING picture. The NBA has been doing an awesome job this year with marketing and scheduling games, etc. The league just keeps getting better. Now only if an underdog team would win the championship. Check out the Big Head commercials too. They are the shit.

KU

This picture NEVER gets old

I just wanted to share some afternoon basketball thoughts with you guys.  The NBA and more importantly KU Basketball are shaping up to be incredible seasons.  KU is getting some really good new recruits and returning all of our players from last year.  Despite the painful loss to Michigan State in the Sweet 16, KU had a really good season especially after losing several players to the NBA.  This season, we return full strength, older, wiser with some amazing new recruits.  I don’t make preseason predictions for KU but I will say that I smell another National Championship.  The NBA has been shaping up rather nicely the last several years.  Attendance is up.  The marketing is “AMAZING” and the quality of play has been MUCH better than it was several years ago.  The Bulls vs Celtics series this year was one of the greatest series in NBA history and so far this summer has seen some big moves for players.  Shaq is a Cav.  Rasheed Wallace is a Celtic.  Ben Gordon is a Piston.  Shawn Marion is a Maverick and Hedo Turkoglu is a Raptor.  Some moves seems smarter than others but it is definitely exciting.  I never want the winter in Chicago to begin BUT there is a lot of great sports to look forward too in the fall and winter.  Rock Chalk!!!!!!

Burnin and Lootin

Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers for winning their 15th NBA Championship in franchise history, only behind the Boston Celtics.  Kobe Bryant, of course, won the MVP and the Lakers dominated the Orlando Magic in 5 games.  I can’t say I’m surprised or disappointed that the Lakers won.  I am happy to see Kobe with his fourth and his first without Shaq.  Phil Jackson goes down in history as the coach with the most rings, 10.  I think Pau Gasol deserves a ring too.  It seems like the fans were so excited last night that they started riots around the Staples Center.  They started fires, threw fireworks at Police, attacked taxi cabs and cars and looted a shoe store called Holy Grail.  WTF!!!!!!!  Rioters stole sneakers from the shoe store which has many shoes on consignment.  I am sure the owner and all of the consignees are happy the Lakers won but didn’t expect that.  Damn shame.  I can’t imagine my kicks being stolen because the Lakers won the championship.  Come on people.  People get in fights over scuffed kicks.  Imagine if broke into a store that was selling your shoes and jacked them.  That is ground for something more serious than an ass whooping.

In spirit of the Laker Riots, as they are now being called, here is a classic song from the legend, Bob Marley, Burnin and Lootin.

NBA Finals

Kobe Bryant

Today is a big day for the NBA and especially for two superstars who are after the title.  Kobe Bryant, who has already won three titles, is looking to get his fourth.  This is particularly important for Kobe because people have been wondering if he can win one without somebody like Shaq.  Personally, I think he can and I think he will, even if it’s not this year.  Dwight Howard is also looking to solidfy his position as one of the most dominant players in recent years.  I can’t lie, I’m gonna be going for the Magic.  Anyways, make sure you tune in tonight at 8:30 EST on ABC to see the Lakers vs. the Magic.  This should be an incredible series.  Look at Kobe dunking on Dwight Howard.  Hopefully this isn’t what will happen in this series

Sigh of Relief

Lebron James

A huge concern of mine for the last couple of months has been for Lebron James.  After watching almost every game of the playoffs thus far, I, like many other keen observers, have been obsessed with the HUGE goiter on the right side of Lebron’s face.  I would find myself rewinding my dvr just to show people how large this growth was.  The more frustrating part is that I NEVER heard it addressed by any commentators or on any online articles.  I did a fair share of research about the growth and only came across message board discussions and speculation by other obsessed people.  So today, I FINALLY found out that he had surgery to remove this benign growth on James’ parotid gland.  The procedure took 5 hours and Lebron is expected to make a full recovery.  I can finally breath again.

Last night was kind of a bittersweet moment for me.  Watching Lebron and the Cavs totally blow it sucked something terrible.  However, it always warms my heart to see underdogs win especially in the NBA.  The Orlando Magic not only beat the Cavs but they silenced critics and pretty much dominated the series.  Although I want Lebron to win a title, I also love to see a team like the Magic in the finals.  Now I’m on gonna jump on the bandwagon and say GO MAGIC!!!!!  I love Turkoglu and Lewis and now Pietrus is one of my favorite players in the NBA.  So if you need another reminder, NBA Finals are this week.  Don’t miss them.

Case in Point. NBA=AMAZING

After missing the Tuesday and Wednesday night games, I watched game 5 of the Magic vs Cavs series and of course, it did not disappoint.  The Cavs came out on fire and Mo Williams was lights out from three.  The Magic came back towards the end of the half and actually led for a decent amount of the second half until Lebron just tookover.  In the fourth quarter in particular, the Cavs had Lebron post up at the free throw thing and just facilitate the entire offense.  He either took it to the rack and scored, got fouled or made an assist.  He had his hand in almost every point in the fourth quarter either scoring or assisting on damn near every bucket.  Lebron ended the game with 37 points, 12 assists and 14 boards and the Cavs brought the series to closer 3-2, with the Magic leading by one game.  It was unreal how Lebron just took over the entire game and dominated the whole fourth quarter.  He looked like he was playing back in high school, picking and choosing his attack.  Anyways, point being, watch the rest of the playoffs.   It has been AMAZING!!!!!

Amazing Happens

First let me say that I am a HUGE basketball fan.  I have played my entire life and followed college and pro ball for as long as I can remember.  I didn’t  analyze the game like I do now but I have always kept up with players and teams.  For the last 5 years or so, I have been watching A LOT of NBA ball, probably even more than college(with the exception of the Kansas Jayhawks).  I actually enjoy the game more than college because of the things that pro basketball players can do.   They are, in my opinion, the best athletes on the planet and do unbelievable shit on a consistent basis.  Whether its Kobe Bryant hitting turn around, fade away three’s as easily as he dunks or Chris Paul handling the ball like its attached to a string, these guys make the game look so easy.  This year in particular, teams and players, have elevated their games to a level that hasn’t been seen in a LONG time.  The NBA caught a lof of flack in recent years for lack of passion for the game but this year has been so much fun to watch.  The playoffs have been as exciting as March Madness.  In fact, the Bulls vs Celtics series was the best series I have ever seen and will go down in history as one of the greatest series of all time.  The NBA has also done a phenomenal marketing and advertising this year.  The Kobe vs Lebron puppet commercials and the “Where Amazing Happens” commercials with Kanye West’s song playing are bringing much more attention to the games and the series themselves.  So please everyone, whether you are a fan of basketbal or not(I converted my roommate to a Lebron fan), take some time to watch a few games and really pay attention to the plays that these guys are able to make.  Keep in mind they are playing against the greatest players in the world making the game look easy.  It really is amazing.

PS………The favorite to win the whole thing, The Cleveland Cavaliers, are about to lose to the magic.  I Love This Game!!!!!
