Frostwire and Frostclick present Mike Schpitz “Spring Cleaning”

I know it seems like I just dropped my mixtape, The Prize Package Volume 1 but I got the opportunity to link with Frostwire and Frostclick to do an exclusive mixtape for their site and their torrent downloading program. If you recall, back in 2009, Frostwire and Frostclick featured my debut album, Sunday Drive and it received A LOT of love and over 81,000 downloads. So, when they asked me about doing an exclusive project, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity and had to show the love back. This time, I put together a mixtape called Spring Cleaning, which features 19 tracks of old and new material from each of my projects since Sunday Drive. I have songs from Love Potion Number 9th, Mike Murder, Stanley Ipkiss, The Prize Package Volume 1, Sunday Skool with Pete Sayke and Have You Seen My Stapler? with SLOT-A. It is basically a history lesson about my music and has some new, unheard stuff. Spring Cleaning went live yesterday so, go over to Frostwire and Frostclick to download it. The link is below as well as the track list and a snippet of the post on Frostclick.com

Lord Willin’

Lately, I have been listening to music a little differently.  Rather than listening to rhymes and beats, I have been listening to the way people layer their vocals and their adlibs and dubs.  One of the first artists that I wanted to listen to was The Clipse.  I always liked how their music sounded so, I popped in Lord Willin’ to listen to how the Clipse layered their vocals and what not.  I’ll save my findings with myself so I can work on my own sound in my new home studio but their joint, Gangsta Lean is still my shit.  Regardless how you feel about Pharrell and his singing ass, he kills that joint.  I’ll share the rest of the music that I’m listening to as I venture into the world of vocal layering and what not.  Check out the Clipse, Gangsta Lean below.  Happy Hump Day.

UPDATE: Well I can’t find the Gangsta Lean Youtube so here is Comedy Central featuring Fabolous along with my version, Comic View from my project, Mike Murder.  Just in case you forgot.

Black Milk “Deadly Medley” Featuring Royce Da 5’9″ and Elzhi

Here is a lesson for all the rappers out there, including myself.  Listen closely and take notes.  Deadly Medley

These are three of the sickest cats out and Black Milk’s production is always crazy.  Black Milk’s new album, Album of the Year is set to drop on September 14th and will probably deserve a purchase from everyone out there.  I think you can all look forward to a Black Milk/Mike Murder track in the works.

Mike Murder

“What up world????? It’s me, I’m back again.  Mike Schpitz on that Mike Murder shit.”

That is a quote you might recognize from the first track, Mike Is Like from my new project, Mike Murder.  After dropping three leaks that were very well received, today, Mike Murder is finally available for download in it’s entirety.  It premiered this morning, exclusively on DJBooth.net and has hit several other sites as well.  I pulled together some of the people who have been very supportive from the jump to sponsor the mixtape.  DJBooth.net, Ballerstatus.com, YNotMyDream.net, RefinedHype.com and PMG Media have all lended their sites and brands to help release and promote Mike Murder.  The usual suspects all assisted with the cover art again.  Dakota Blue Harper is responsible for the pictures and of course Heath O’Campo handled the artwork.  My guy Classick, recorded, mixed and mastered all of the tracks.  So, it is my pleasure to present to you, my third official project, Mike Murder.  Please listen, download, comment and share.

Mike Murder Artwork and Track List

Hopefully everyone knows by now that my new project, Mike Murder drops on Wednesday, May 26th.  If not, consider this another reminder.  I wanted to release the artwork and the track list today just to give people a taste of what everything looks like.  Above is the cover art.  The photo was taken by Dakota Blue Harper, who has done pretty much every photo I have and once again, he comes through with a perfect album shot.  The artwork was done by another familiar person, Heath O’ Campo who is responsible for 100K Takeover, Sunday Drive and part of Love Potion Number 9th: The Hangover.  Like Dakota, Heath does his thing for the artwork and track list to really bring the project to life and give it some dope visuals.  Check out the track list below and stay tuned for Wednesday when the project officially drops.

Mike Schpitz “Mike Murder” Ballerstatus Feature

One of the sponsors for Mike Murder, Ballerstatus recently posted a feature about my project, Mike Murder which happens to be written by yours truly.  We talked about doing an interview but the good folks at Ballerstatus thought it would be a cool change if I wrote a little feature about my project, the inspiration and my current mind state going into Mike Murder.  Here is an excerpt below as well as a link to the full article.  Shout out to everyone at Ballerstatus for the incredible support.

“It’s been a little over a year since I first started releasing music to promote my debut album/project, Sunday Drive, so I wanted to take some time reflect on my current mind state as it relates to the current climate in hip-hop, as well as bring everyone up to speed about what is going on now.  On the one year anniversary of Sunday Drive, I am releasing my third official project, titled Mike Murder.  It showcases another side of me, my writing and my music that might not have been evident with my two previous releases: Sunday Drive and Love Potion Number 9th: The Hangover.

My favorite element of hip-hop has been and will always be the emcee.  Although I have great appreciation for, and understand the value of the DJ, the producer, the engineers, the breakers, etc., I always listen to lyrics first.  I am fascinated by the way emcees put together words.  I heard that country music has the greatest song writers, but I couldn’t disagree more.  Emcees manage to string together their thoughts in a way that not only makes perfect sense, but flows so well. It seems like the words were meant to fit.  The stories in their songs read like novels with vivid descriptions of street tales, childhood struggles, and pursuit of the “American Dream”, that any author could appreciate.  I think the message often gets lost in the assumption that the language is foul for no reason, but if you actually read the lyrics on paper, it’s easy to see how much power the words hold.  Take Nas’ “Rewind” for example. He raps the entire story backwards, all the while keeping his flow precise.  When you mix in the different styles of “flow,” rapping becomes one of the most difficult forms of writing.”
