Tona and Lyve present Fast Pace featuring T.R.A.C.K.S and Saukrates

Fast Pace

Happy Friday.  It’s a beautiful day in Mr. Roger’s neighborhood, in fact it’s a particularly special day for The League of Ordinary Gentlemen.  The League’s Canadian emcee, Tona, has dropped another video from his album, Direct Deposit with producer Lyve.  The song is called Face Pace and it features Saukrates and T.R.A.C.K.S.  and of course Lyve on the beat.  Tona and Lyve have been dropping nothing but straight heat with Direct Deposit.  If you haven’t already picked up the album, do it now.  It’s available on Itunes and Amazon.  For those of you unfamiliar with Saukrates, he is a Canadian hip hop legend.   He is down with Choclair and of course Kardinal.  He was recently featured on the hook for Redman and Method Man’s single Ayo and has been down with both those cats for a while.  Also, if you watch Nelly Furtado’s Get Loose tour with will see Big Sox.  It comes on one of the comcast music video channels all the time.  Once again, if you haven’t already picked up Direct Deposit from Tona and Lyve, do it now.  Without further ado, here is the brand new video from Tona and Lyve, Fast Pace featuring T.R.A.C.K.S. and Saukrates.

BTW, I am glad I don’t spell my name in all caps with a period between each letter.  That shit would get old VERY quickly.

A Tall Glass for Joe Budden

Tahiry

First off, I like Joe Budden as a rapper but I’m not a huge fan of his music.  His first album was actually pretty dope and very underrated but he hasn’t lived up to his potential since.  Recently, he has made a name for himself(via big booty Tahiry) with videos of him running off at the mouth and dissing everyone.  The question “Who hasn’t Joe Budden dissed?” arises often.  After Vibe magazine published a hypothetical “Rap Battle” ranking various emcees and placing them in brackets tournament style, Budden let his mouth get a little ahead of him and dissed Method Man.  He caught a lot of flack from Meth, Red and Busta Rhymes even said Budden needed to be slapped(hahaha).  Apparently he talked it out with Raekwon and Busta and everything is cool but Inspectah Deck just released a diss record going pretty hard on Budden.  Budden, OF COURSE, had to respond by saying some shit that he’s gonna give it to Deck just for fun.  I’m not saying that Budden won’t come hard at Deck but it seems to me that Budden needs to drink an EXTRA tall glass of SHUT THE FUCK UP and focus on making some music.  If he is as NICE as he says he is then making dope records shouldn’t be a problem.  However, his recent track record speaks a little differently than Budden does on camera.  He is part of one of the most vicious groups in hip hop but he is only the 3rd nicest one in his own group.  I think it is time for Budden to turn the camera off(or only show Tahiry), turn the other cheek and make some decent music.  He put out a dope record call Who, about what and who killed hip hop, that was like 10 minutes long but since then Budden dropped a WACK album and has done nothing but irritate people.  Maybe that is what he is going for but STOP dissing legends and focus on being better than Ortiz because right now Royce and Crooked are KILLING him.  Where is that slap that Busta offered dude?????

Here is the Inspectah Deck track for your listening pleasure

Let Me Fly

DMX

“Either let me fly or give me death”

Perhaps one of the most personal and emotional mainstream emcees, DMX’s career has recently been overshadowed by his legal troubles.  His show on BET definitely did not help his image either.  His charges range from gun possession to reckless driving to animal cruelty.  The majority of his recent publicity has been far from positive.  He appears to be a very troubled guy who battles with drug addictions and personal demons.  However, DMX did manage to carve out a spot in mainstream hip hop alongside the likes of Ja Rule and Jay-Z back when Def Jam was on top.  It’s been quite a while since I listened to X’s music so I decided to listen to his debut album, It’s Dark and Hell is Hot.  It made me remember how dope DMX used to be.  I used to listen to It’s Dark quite a bit back in high school and I liked it even more than I remember.  Of course Ruff Ryder’s Anthem is a classic hip hop anthem and How’s It Going Down is another classic for the females but my favorite joint on the album is Let Me Fly.  DMX is an artist that never shied away from addressing his own personal issues on the mic.  DMX was definitely no slouch on the mic, he has held his own on features with LL Cool J, Redman and Method Man.  Although none of his albums or singles had the same impact as It’s Dark and Ruff Ryder’s Anthem, DMX still has a spot of his own in hip hop.  He also has some of the most notorious “Pause/No Homo” moments in hip hop history too.  DMX used to go REALLY hard.  Check out Let Me Fly and definitely relisten to the whole album.

Red and Meth

“How High?????????”

What’s happening ye faithful?  Happy Monday(if that is even possible) and happy holidays.  I hope everyone made it through the weekend with all of their fingers, toes and extremities.  It was a beautiful weekend in Chicago, minus the 4th.  The city was like a warzone Saturday night with the constant barrage of artillery shells, bottle rockets, m-80′s and Black Cats.  I can’t imagine how much the city wide cleanup is going to suck.  I remember cleaning up my dad’s basketball court after the 4th.  The clean up made shooting off hundreds of dollars worth of fireworks ALMOST not worth it.  I did some “legal” downloading this weekend to revisit one of hip hop’s best duos, Redman and Method’s Blackout!(1).  I used to listen to this album HEAVY in high school especially Da Rockwilder and Cerial Killer.  I can’t say I’m a BIG fan of their movie OR TV show but their music has always been dope.  This morning, I got hooked on their joint The ?.  I’m not sure if it’s pronounced The Question or The Question Mark.  Regardless, Red and Meth murder this song.  Reggie Noble even produces the track.  I was surprised to hear a Ja Rule sample in the hook too.  I’m starting a “Where The F is Ja Rule” campaign.  He had that joint with Lil Wayne last year that was actually kinda ill.  “I’m a young Raekwon, a chef is hell’s kitchen.”  Wayne USED to be so potent.  I actually put both Blackout and Blackout 2 on an MP3 cd and plan on riding to both all day.  I hate when rappers title their albums, Volume 1, 2, 3.  That is some of the laziest shit ever but I’m am expecting a halfway decent album from Red and Meth.  The first two songs are ill.  Here is some classic Red and Meth along with their biggest song to date, How High, which got them a movie and a TV show.  Enjoy.

Take Your Time

Pete Rock

“I watch time stand still I’m just one man”

It’s crazy how a song can give you the feeling of a certain time of day.  Some mornings I need music to give me a boost to jump start my day and other mornings I just need to zone out.  Today I took a trip back to 98/99 and through in Pete Rock’s Soul Survivor.  I can’t even remember the last time I listened to this album.  This whole record takes me back to my freshman/sophomore year, rolling around in Logan’s gold Honda.  I remember how dope Pete Rock’s beats are but I forgot how nice he was on the mic too.  Pete Rock was NICE.  Joints like Tru Master and Half Man Half Amazing show PR’s abilities to stand alongside Inspectah Deck, Kurupt and Method Man.  My favorite joint on this album and the perfect song to start my day is Take Your Time.  The whole vibe is incredible.  It’s one of those songs that I could play for anyone, regardless of age and I guarantee they could appreciate it.  I might email it to my grandma later.  I can just imagine my grandma bumping Pete Rock at her next bridge club get together.  How ill would that be?  I had to run this song back 3 times this morning and I will probably listen to it at least 4 more times today.  This is hip hop at it’s finest.  I haven’t even made it through half the tracks on the album because of this song.  I am kind of excited to listen to Verbal Murder and Strange Fruit.  So I welcome you all to kick back, zone out and enjoy some classic shit.  I had a hard time even finding this song on the internet.  What type of this is that?????
