Several new releases dropped last week including everyone’s favorite rapper, Waka Flocka Flame.  Both Waka Flocka and Bruno Mars managed to crack the top 10 this week along with Eminem and Trey Songz.  Check out the top

A lot of new albums to the charts this week including Faith Evans, Pimp C and Skyzoo and !llmind.  Lil Wayne moved another 23K with his garbage ass EP.  I haven’t listened to Skyzoo and !llmind’s album but I heard that it’s sick.  I wonder if Gucci’s appeal is fading or is 80,000 in two weeks considered good numbers for Sccucccci?  Until next time……..

Weekly Sales 10/7/10

The biggest news this past week in album sales was Lil Wayne’s new EP called I Am Not A Human being.  With Wayne being in Jail and this record having minimal promotion, I am sure people were curious as to what numbers he might move.  Well Wayne hit the charts at number 2 selling 110,000 copies in his first week.  I am not sure if this is considered a success or failure by Wayne and his record label but for no promotion and the album SUCKING balls, I think it is pretty good for Wayne.  Another release that seemed to go under the radar was Gucci Mane’s new album with a single, Gucci Time with Swizz Beatz that hasn’t seem to catch much steam.  Gucci landed at number 4 selling 60,000.  Check the top

A few other releases hit the charts this week in the forms of Lil Boosie and Ice Cube.  I haven’t heard either album so, I can’t really share comments on either but I guess 30K for Boosie is pretty good.  Ice Cube didn’t really seem to have an impact at all.  Oh well, until next week…..

I guess Black Milk’s Album of the Year fell out of the top 200 after just a week.  Damn shame seeing as how he has one of the best albums of the year.  Eminem looks like he will definitely hit triple platinum this year.  I wonder what Lil Weezy’s new(WACK) album, I Am Not A Human Being will sell.  I’m sure he will sell over 100k maybe 200.

Distant Relatives

What a better way to start the week than with one of my most anticipated albums in YEARS.  Actually, I have been listening to this album since last week and it has only come out of the tapedeck a couple of times.  With numerous delays, I was starting to get worried that Nas and Damian Marley’s album, Distant Relatives would never see the light of day.  Despite the wait, the album is DEFINITELY worth it.  It’s easy to have incredible expectations when two of music’s greatest voices team up for an entire album.  It’s even easier to be let down by such a pairing however, Distant Relatives managed to bring out the strengths in both artists and minimizing the awkward collabs of mashing together two genres of music.  Fortunately for Nas’ sake, Damian and Stephen handle the production and seem to guide the soundscape of the album.  This allows Distant Relatives to flow nicely.  Nas also brings his A game with his writing.  He touches on many different subjects and sounds just as sharp as ever, even on slower paced, reggae joints.  I don’t want to give away too much because this is a project that people NEED to support.  I will be purchasing my copy tomorrow.  The album isn’t quite perfect but even the weakest songs have great messages and are still pretty solid.  Even Lil Wayne drops some knowledge on My Generation, which happens to be my least favorite song.  In my humble opinion, this is the strongest album of the year to date and will be top 5 for sure.  Not only is the album really dope, it’s in support of Africa and proceeds go to Africa so, PURCHASE the album.  I am sure they will tour again very soon so, make sure you catch Nas and Damian live.  Check out the video for As We Enter below.

Weekly Numbers 4/14/2010

Looking at my Gucci it’s about that time.  There were no major releases last week to speak of so, no real surprises in the numbers.  Erykah Badu is still in the top 10.  Ursher is sitting at number 2 and Monica is at number 6.  Luda and Blacked Eyed Peas are still sitting up top as well.  I’m curious to know WHO keeps buying copies of Black Eyed Peas.  Here is the top.

Naturally, it’s that time of the week again.  All the usual suspects are still on the charts.  Ludacris is sitting at number 3 moving just under 200K.  Sade is still the man, I mean WOMAN and Gorillaz are doing quite well.  Here is the top.

I guess the charts are looking pretty standard.  I heard there was some fradulent numbers surround Sam Adams, whoever that is.  His team responding saying that they would never purchase copies of their own albums.  I heard Cash Money did that shit for Wayne too.  Anyway, stay tuned until next week.  Once again, shout out to HipHopDx on the numbers as always.

Weekly Numbers 3/17/2010

The numbers are in once again.  There were a few new releases that dropped last week and two of them hit the top of the charts.  Ludacris dropped his album, Battle of the Sexes, and debuted at number 1, moving 137K.  Right below Luda was the Gorillaz new album, Plastic Beach, debuting at number 2 with 112K.  Still up at the are Sade, Black Eyed Peas and Lil Wayne’s Rebirth.  Here is the top.

Gorilla Zoe Challenge: Day Eleven

I have to apologize for the super late post of the day.  It’s been a hectic day but just to reassure everyone, I am STILL on the GZC.  Today, I went back and caught mixtape number 17, Gorilla Woods Part 2 and jumped forward to mixtape 20, Cartunez.  For whatever reason, number 18 is nowhere to be found.  I guess that means it was too bad to continue to promote it.  Anyway, the end is approaching ever so rapidly.  I have to comment on a trend I have been noticing in rap lately and in particular Gorilla Zoe does it A LOT throughout these tapes.  Rappers have been comparing themselves to shit lately.  Kanye has said things like “How it feels to wake up to be the shit and the urine.” Lil Wayne frequently uses inappropriate bathroom chat as well.  However, Gorilla Zoe has taken it to a new level by saying things like “I doo doo and boo boo and poo poo.”  I’m not sure why this trend continues but I must urge rappers to find more clever ways of saying they are the shit rather than comparing themselves to ACTUALL shit.  Well, enjoy both tapes and trust there will be some classic material coming very soon.  Stay tuned.

Gorilla Woods Part 2

Cartunez

The cover work is still kind of hilarious though.
