Tona and Lyve present Fast Pace featuring T.R.A.C.K.S and Saukrates

Fast Pace

Happy Friday.  It’s a beautiful day in Mr. Roger’s neighborhood, in fact it’s a particularly special day for The League of Ordinary Gentlemen.  The League’s Canadian emcee, Tona, has dropped another video from his album, Direct Deposit with producer Lyve.  The song is called Face Pace and it features Saukrates and T.R.A.C.K.S.  and of course Lyve on the beat.  Tona and Lyve have been dropping nothing but straight heat with Direct Deposit.  If you haven’t already picked up the album, do it now.  It’s available on Itunes and Amazon.  For those of you unfamiliar with Saukrates, he is a Canadian hip hop legend.   He is down with Choclair and of course Kardinal.  He was recently featured on the hook for Redman and Method Man’s single Ayo and has been down with both those cats for a while.  Also, if you watch Nelly Furtado’s Get Loose tour with will see Big Sox.  It comes on one of the comcast music video channels all the time.  Once again, if you haven’t already picked up Direct Deposit from Tona and Lyve, do it now.  Without further ado, here is the brand new video from Tona and Lyve, Fast Pace featuring T.R.A.C.K.S. and Saukrates.

BTW, I am glad I don’t spell my name in all caps with a period between each letter.  That shit would get old VERY quickly.

This Means War

Kim Kong Il

Kim Jong Il

Dude looks more like Elvis than a dictator.  Are those Prada shades?

I can’t pretend that I follow the news, politics and world happenings as closely as I do hip hop but an interesting thought popped into my head.  Of course by now, everyone knows that the United States is suffering the worst depression/recession/economic crisis(whatever you want to call it) since the Great Depression.  Ask your parents and grandparents, they will definitely tell you that they have never seen things this bad since the Depression.  Your parents are experiencing the hardest economic time since the 80′s but from my understanding, it’s a lot worse this time.  I’m not sure how many of you stayed awake during history class but World War 2 was one of the primary reasons that pulled the US out of the Great Depression.  The country(from what I remember) came together and created jobs, programs and industry geared towards the war and rebuilding our country.  I’m not exactly sure why it took a World War for the US to get their shit together but a lot of times triumph comes in the face of tragedy.  Today’s economic status is a tragedy.  We are the wealthiest and most advanced country in the world and still we let our country get to this point.  All of that, made me think about the situation with North Korea.  I don’t really keep it with all the “goings on” between us and North Korea but I know they are threatening us with force and even NUKES.  They have been testing nuke’s for a while and apparently have the capabilities.  I heard that they threatened to nuke Hawaii too(man Hawaii hasn’t done anything to anyone but besides be prettier than most of the world).  Everyone knows that Kim Jong Il is one crazy as bastard.  Just watch Team America: World Police.  Who knows what that cat will actually do.  It really made me think about what the world would be like if we started exchanging nukes with North Korea and went to war during one of the US’s lowest moments.  Would we as citizen’s rally behind the government and go to war?  Would we protest and start moving to Canada? And would a war turn our economic status around and pull us out of this recession like World War 2 did?  I don’t have any idea what would happen.  All I know is that shit is fucked up and history teaches valuable lessons.  It is something to ponder.  It might be beneficial to start thinking about what you would do if things really go haywire.  I don’t know what I would do but I might have to polish up my boots and die for the freedoms and liberities that we take for granted every day.  Imagine if George Bush was our leader for decades and all of the reading materials, music and television shows were how about Bush was our “God.”  Talk about brainwashed.  Kim Jong Il is no joke.  Just something to think about while I continuously bless ya’ll with beautiful music and hip hop commentary.  Now to lighten the mood, enjoy two of my personal favorites from Kardinal and Bob Marley both aptly titled War.  This means WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!!!!!

The Proof is in the Pudding

Drake

Now first off, let me say that I like Drake and I think that dude is definitely talented.  Drake is maybe the only artist that I have seen, who hasn’t dropped an album that is headlining national tours and EVERYONE knows all his words.  I mean dude STILL hasn’t finalized his deal.  So before I come off as a hater, shout out to Drake.  Especially for representing Toronto and shedding a little light on their music scene.  Canada has really dope artists but never get the attention they deserve(see Kardinal Offishall).  Now back to Drizzy Drake.  With cosigns from Lil Wayne, Kanye and now Jay-Z,  there is simply NO WAY Drake can fail.  With that being said, the hype seems just a LITTLE too much.  He has one of the hottest songs in the country with Best I Ever Had and manages to stand out among of team of autotuned slouches on Young Money’s female anthem, Every Girl.  I have been screaming this for a while now that Drake, although every talented, is overrated.  I know dude has been on his grind for a while now but he is being placed at the forefront of mainstream hip hop for what reason?  So Far Gone is a mixtape that plays much like an album, I agree and maybe if he had a deal it would have been an album but c’mon people, Drake is NOT that ill.  Am I the only one that thinks he sounds exactly like Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Trey Songz(minus the most annoying attributes of all three).  He definitely knows how to write a song and I actually like his R & B shit better than his hip hop shit but there is seemlingly no depth to Drake’s lyrics.  Case in point, Drake’s joint, which is apparently old, features Phonte and Elzhi over a 9th Wonder production.  Looks like Drake’s comes in third.  Anyways, I won’t make any more judgement calls about Drake until his album drops but he is NOT the nicest dude in hip hop right now.  I guess the ladies really do run shit though cuz they LOVE them some Drake.  Dope song though.

Phonte sings too!!!!!!!!! Probably better than Drake.
