J. Cole “Daddy’s Little Girl” Music Video

I been jamming J. Cole’s new album all weekend and it’s getting better with each listen.  Really solid debut.  I can’t wait to see where Cole’s career goes after this.  Maybe a grammy?  Anyway, check his new video for Daddy’s Little Girl and make sure you buy Cole World: The Sideline Story tomorrow when it drops.

J. Cole “Cole World: The Sideline Story”

In case you didn’t know, J. Cole’s new album leaked.  This has been on debut that a lot of people have been waiting on, including myself.  I’m not all the way through the album and I won’t be posting a review BUT J. Cole is sick.  The album is really good.  It’s crazy to hear some real shit on a mainstream artist’s album.  Guys like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Big KRIT, Yelawolf and some others are really taking this hip hop thing to the next level.  Nothing but respect for J. Cole for this album.  I even like the Trey Songz joint.  Check the video for Can’t Get Enough below.

Kendrick Lamar “Hiii Power” produced by J. Cole

Just wanted to share some midday music with everyone that I missed a couple weeks ago.  I know Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole are doing a project together but I missed listening to their joint Hiiii Power.  J. Cole only does the beat on this joint but it is awesome.  Kendrick is one of my favorite dudes out right now.  Big shout out to Kendrick and J. Cole.  I can’t wait to hear what else they cook up.

Leaders of the New School

I was bumping a few mixtapes over the thanksgiving break in addition to Kanye’s new album.  I often find myself struggling with the Leaders of the New School or cats that supposedly who will take over this hip hop thing for the next several years.  I have heard hip hop is dead and although I don’t really agree with that, I think that the focus on money and fame over the actual music has led to some horrible trends especially in the mainstream.  Without pointing fingers, I wanted to share some videos from a few cats who I think are dope and hopefully will have the ability to capture the mainstream’s eyes and ears and really run the game.  Yelawolf, J. Cole and Big K.R.I.T. are three cats who I think definitely deserve their shine and hopefully can continue putting out dope music.  Here are some videos from each of these cats to let you know that there are capable emcees getting some love.  Hopefully they can get even more attention in the near future.

The Blow Up

I know I just posted J. Cole’s most recent mixtape a few weeks ago but a new one, The Blow Up, popped up a couple days ago so, I figured I would check it out.  I have heard a lot of the songs on the tape but nonetheless, it’s always dope to hear one of my favorite, newer emcees.  I’m not sure how well his single, Who Dat is doing but I have high hopes for J. Cole.  I think he should be able to surpass almost all newcomers aside from Drake and maybe B.o.B. only because of the crossover, pop hits that those guys have.  Apparently this mixtape is a collection of J. Cole’s work that was not featured on The Warm up or The Come Up.  Pretty solid complitation even though I’m waiting for that album, Cole World.  Hopefully we will see that early 2011.  Shout out to J. Cole who doesn’t seem to oversaturate himself and focuses more on quality than quantity.  Check out, The Blow Up and download it below from DatPiff.com.

J. Cole “Who Dat” Video

One of hip hop’s newest emcees, endorsed by the god mc, J. Cole has been making some noise recently.  On Monday, he dropped the music video for his “single” Who Dat, which is supposed to be featured on his album, Cole World.  It has taken me several months of observation and open ears about J. Cole to really become a fan but after I heard this song and listened to some more of his music, I like dude.  I’m not sure he will have the success that Drake has but I think dude is definitely a better emcee and seems to have the right approach to the music.  Time will tell but as of now, I fucks with J. Cole.  Who Dat is an ill way to come out for your debut album.  I just hope this joint can get as much burn as Drake’s Over.  Check out the video and keep  your eyes and ears open for more from J. Cole

XXL’s Freshman Class of 2010

There is always a significant amount of hype around XXL Magazine’s Freshman Class every year and this year was no different.  2009 saw several breakout emcees that have been labeled “the future” so, XXL does everyone a favor and “legitimizes” the list and makes it official.  2010 includes a list of cats who had good years in 2009 and are supposed to BLOW this year.  The list includes, J. Cole, Pill, Nipsey Hussle, Wiz Khalifa, OJ Da Juiceman, Freddie Gibbs, Big Sean, Jay Rock, Donnis and Fashawn.  No real surprises on this list except for maybe OJ Da Juiceman who seems to be the most commercially successful with hits like Make The Trap Aye and Superman High with R. Kelly.  The rest of these cats have been all over the internet and have some cosigns from the biggest names in hip hop.  J. Cole has Jay-Z, Big Sean has Kanye, Jay Rock has tracks with Lil Wayne, Pill has been given props by Andre 3000 and so on and so forth.  I can’t really argue with the names on the list other than the fact that some of these cats are just really not that dope, in my opinion.  XXL does everyone a favor by putting out videos where each artist freestyles any where from 4-12 bars or so.  These videos are not only WAY too short but also show some of the emcees shortcomings as far as bars go.  One sticks out like a sore thumb and despite it being the WORST thing ever, it actually holds the most replay value for humor alone.  I am looking forward to seeing what the new class will not only do in 2010 but what they will bring to the table for the future of hip hop.  I am talking about albums and longevitiy, not mixtapes and singles.  Shout out to Fashawn for dropping a dope ALBUM last year.  Check all 10 videos and be prepare to shake your head for one in particular.  I’ll let you guess who it is.

Any predictions for 2011????????
