For anyone who doesn’t know, I have been bumping The Roots new album, How I Got Over TOUGH since it came out and even bought myself a copy for my collection. They recently dropped an odd video for the song, The Fire featuring John Legend, which I absolutely love. I guess I like the direction of the video but I just didn’t really understand what was going on. Nevertheless, the video is pretty cool and different from what I expected. I guess I have to watch it a few more times to figure out who these people are and what exactly is going on. Go buy The Roots new album now. One of the best albums of the year for sure.

Weekly Sales 6/30/10
This week has been perhaps the biggest week in sales for quite some time. As you all might know, Eminem dropped his album, Recovery last week and managed to move almost 750K in its first week. It is the highest first week sales in nearly two years. I honestly am pretty shocked by these numbers, i figured Drake would do more than Eminem but MAN, props to Em. Drake is now at number 2 on the charts and broke the gold mark in just two weeks. The Roots also hit the charts at number 6, moving 51k. Here is the top.

B.o.B. is still doing well. His feature on Big Boi’s new LP is pretty dope. Props to B.o.B. Hopefully Nas and Damian Marley can keep crawling towards gold. It’s still a little disheartening that The Roots still only moved 50K in their first week especially after touring the world for years and putting out dope album after dope album. Oh well, until next time, BIG shout out to Eminem.
How I Got Over
I meant to post this on Monday but I just got too busy and didn’t get a chance BUT I have been listening to The Roots new album for almost a week now and I’m in love with it. First listen, I wasn’t blown away but by the second one, I was addicted. As if anyone expected The Roots to NOT drop a dope album and reinvent their sound again, How I Got Over is maybe my favorite Roots album in recent years. That is saying a lot because I love everything they drop. Despite the delays, How I Got Over is nearly flawless from beginning to end. There are a few guest features I could do without and maybe one or two hooks but the album sounds incredible and doesn’t need one skip. There are only a few artists/groups that manage to continuously put out amazing music regardless of the current state of music. Outkast, The Roots and UGK were a few that seem to bring dope music every single time. I wish other of rap’s most beloved stars could take a page from The Roots book. I not only recommend listening to How I Got Over but go purchase a copy and support good music. It’s hard to even pick a favorite joint but right now it has to be Right On. This album is simple the SHIT. Check the video for How I Got Over below. I’m not sure what happened to Dear God 2.0 but as soon as I find it again, I’ll repost it.
The Roots “Dear God 2.0″ Video
UPDATE: This video appears to be removed from the net so here is a viral video someone made and a live performance.
One last video for everyone today. The Roots just released a new video for their song, Dear God 2.0, which is really dope. I’ve got a chance to listen to the new album, How I Got Over a couple times and it’s definitely solid. I like their last album, Rising Down a little better but any new Roots music is a breath of fresh air. Their single, How I Got Over is still my favorite track on the album though. Check out the video for Dear God 2.0 and shout out to the homie, Add-2 for getting a chance to perform live with The Roots in NYC. Dream come true.
Dilla Jawns
I came across a little surprise this weekend in the form of The Roots reproducing some J Dilla tracks for a project called Dilla Jawns. This project is similiar to the Sandwiches project they put together late last year. This shit is going to be an aspiring emcees dream to come across all these J Dilla instrumentals replayed by The Roots. It’s officially out for free download so, here is a link for your listening pleasure. Hopefully, The Roots new album, How I Got Over will drop soon. We NEED that. In the meantime, enjoy Dilla Jawns
The Roots How I Got Over
It’s been a good week for music so far. Ras Kass, Me, Canibus and now The Roots drop the video for their lead single, How I Got Over. I saw the preview a few days ago and it looked very dope and as I suspected, the video is ill. It’s really clean footage. The song is the shit too. Their album is supposed to drop October 20th so make sure you stay tuned for that. I need some new Roots music in my life.
How I Got Over
CLASSIC SHIT ALERT!!!!!!!!! I know I said I would have my review of DJ Spinna’s album Sonic Smash today BUT The Roots new single, How I Got Over from their upcoming album, How I Got Over was released last night. I listened right before I went to bed last night and definitely fell asleep with a schmile on my face. The Roots never fail. It is almost unfair to the competition. The Roots set the bar so high that very few artists and groups can compete(as far as quality of music goes). I featured the debut of this debut from the Jimmy Fallon show a month or so ago and now the official single is here. I’ll be bumping it all day. If you missed their performance on Jimmy Fallon, here is the video as well. Enjoy.
How I Got Over
Freshest Band on TV
I have a love/hate relationship with this song now, after sitting through an hour of TERRIBLE TV. I’m not sure who gave Jimmy Fallon his show but they should be fired. Dude is seriously not funny at all. Thank god for The Roots or I would personally find the producers of his show and assasinate them all. I can’t front though, I would sit through an hour of almost anything to watch The Roots perform. This song is SOOOOOOOO dope. I can’t wait for the album. Check out Dice Raw and Black Thought singing on this joint. Hip hop at its best. Shout out to The Roots for continuously bringing that real shit. They NEVER disappoint. Stay tuned for the studio version of How I Got Over and any new updates about their upcoming album. Black Thought might be the GOAT.
How I Got Over
For all ya’ll who are a little late on things, The Roots are the house band for the Jimmy Fallon Show. I can’t say I’m a fan of Fallon but The Roots definitely hold it down. It ALMOST makes the show worth watching and OF COURSE the live perfomances with The Roots and musical guests are always ill. Tonight, The Roots are using their newly found Late Night audience to release the first single and title track from their new album, How I got Over. Dope ass name. If you can stand watching Jimmy Fallon, tune in to hear The Roots new single. If you can’t, you can guarantee that I will feature the song and video as soon as it is available. Their album, How I Got Over is slated for an October 20th release and WILL BE amazing. No question. In the meantime, Check out Mos Def performing Quiet Dog with The Roots on the Jimmy Fallon Show
