In light of coming across a copy of Ghostface’s new album, Apollo Kids, which is sounding pretty dope, I figured I would take it back to the Supreme Clientele days with Ghost’s first video, Apollo Kids.  The wallabe factory was awesome.  I’m looking forward to listening to the new album all weekend.  Shout out to Ghost for keeping it consistent.

And for a bonus, CherChez LaGhost.  Happy Friday.

Weekly Sales 4/7/10

This week has been a pretty big week in terms of releases in the world of hip hop and R&B.  Erykah Badu, Usher, Wu-Tang and E-40 all dropped new records.  I, myself, have only heard two of those 4 records but two are very solid projects.  Ms. Badu hit the charts at number 4 with her new album, The New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, moving 110K.  “Ursher” came in at number 1 selling 330K, while Meth, Ghost and Rae sold 38K at number 12.  Here is the top.

I had NO idea how well the Wu was gonna do but I guess it’s alright.  3 of those copies are still wrapped at my house.  I also bought 2 copies of Ms. Badu’s album, which happens to be my favorite album of the year so far.  I can’t say I have heard much more than the radio singles for Usher new album but he seems to be doing pretty well.  Little Freak featuring Nicki Minah is kind of hot.  Stayed tuned until next week.  April is certain to have some incredible releases.  Little Brother’s album Leftback on the way.

Wu-Massacre

Tis the season to be jolly.  Today, is the official release date for one of 2010′s most anticipated released.  I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a copy of the project last Friday so, I have been riding around to it for several days.  I am going to start off by saying this album could have been better.  I read somewhere that Method Man said the album was rushed out by Def Jam.  Meth said they had no budget and not a lot of time to work on it but the album was put out for the fans.  Reading that statement prior to the release didn’t give me much hope for the album to be a classic but I still figured it would have some good stuff on it.  Our Dreams is a dope record with a dope video and the artwork is amazing of course.  I will say that the album has grown on me though.  It still is a little disappointing especially off the heels of Raekwon’s OBFCL2 but it is a solid way to round out the first quarter of 2010.  I still might buy the project strictly for the artwork.  Anyway, definitely take a listen.  I think the rhymes for the most part are on point, the hooks could use some work and most of the beats are solid.  Everything just could have been tighter in my opinion but I guess when you have no time and no budget this is what happens.  I’m still wondering how they managed to get the illest artwork with no time and no budget.  Check out Meth vs. Chef Part 2 and Our Dreams for a taste of Wu-Massacre

Ghost, Meth and Rae “Our Dreams” Video

To expand on my “Wu Takeover” post, next week, a very important and epic project is being released by three members of the Wu.  Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Raekwon have come together to put out a full-length EP called Wu-Massacre.  I posted the artwork a while back and since then, all three of collector’s covers have hit the net.  This week, their first video, Our Dreams dropped.  I was actually a little surprised by the topic of this song but it is still dope and the video is pretty ill as well.  Not to mention, the beautiful ”eye pleasers” featured in the video.  I want to encourage everyone to pick up all three collector editions of Wu-Massacre to see Ghost, Meth and Rae immortalized in comic book form.  TGIALMOSTF.

I will be purchasing all three copies of this project strictly for the artwork.

Wu-Massacre Cover Art and Track List

So if you have kept up with The Wu since Raekwon dropped his classic, OBFCL2, then you know about the rumored album with Meth, Ghost and Rae.  Well, the cover and track list leaked on the net a week or so ago and if the artwork is telling if the project, it will be incredible.  The comic book cover is perfect.  The track list is short and sweet.  I have no expectations for this album, especially after Ghostface’s last album but I hope this follows the footsteps of OBFCL2.  It is scheduled to drop March 30th so stay tuned.  Peep the track list below.

Where is Saigon’s The Greatest Story Never Told.  Looks like it’s STILL not getting told.  C’mon Just we NEED that.  It’s amazing that selling less than 5,000 copies gets you on the charts nowadays.  I’m pretty sure cats are selling that out of their bookbags.

Wizard of Poetry

Ghostface Wizard

Fresh off a classic(in my opinion), Ghostface is dropping his album Ghostdini The Wizard of Poetry.  Ghostface’s 8th studio album shows Ghost’s softer side and displays his love for the ladies.  I’m not going to lie, this album is a not a good luck for Ghost.  His single with Raheem Devaughn is alright but a whole album of joints like that by Ghostface, I’m not sure WHO wants to hear that.  Especially after coming back so strong with OBFCL2, I figured Ghost and The Wu would want to keep the ball rolling.  It’s a shame too because Ghost is definitely the most consistent member of The Wu and has yet to really disappoint fans with an album.  I guess all he saw was dudes at his shows and wanted a little crossover love.  I mean, if the bonus track on this album with Ron Browz isn’t a sign of the times, I don’t know what is.  The highlights of this album are Stapleton Sex and Guest House and of course Ghostface’s singing.  I would  rather hear Ghost singing every hook on the album rather than teaming up with Lloyd, Adrienne Bailon and Estelle.  As random and as bad as this album is, I think fans will forgive Ghost as long as he comes back in full force on the next project.  Thank god for OBFCL2 or people might really be done with The Wu.  Check out the videos for Stapleton Sex and Baby.  Even the cover art is a bad look.  Clearly he doesn’t remember coming to Kansas.
