I can’t lie, I’m still stuck bumping the new Erykah Badu album. I bought my copy yesterday and it is worth every penny. Once again, I INSIST that everyone goes out and purchases a copy. It is incredible. A few days ago, Raekwon dropped a new video for his joint, Canal Street from 2009′s best album, Only Built For Cuban Linx 2. I’m not sure how many videos Rae has dropped but I’m guessing it’s around 6 or 7 by now. Check out Canal Street. Classic Shit Friday is tomorrow so make sure to tune in.

Return of the Ankh
“Classic Shit Alert”
I love saying that. As you recall, I posted Erykah Badu’s new video for Window Seat on Monday well, I listened to her new album, Return of the Ahkh, a couple times through and I have to say, it’s incredible. Window Seat is reason enough to listen to the whole album but Love, Get MuNNY, Gone Baby, Don’t Be Long and Fall in Love are unbelievable. The album reminds me a little of Mama’s Gun, which is my favorite Erykah Badu album. The vibe, the production, the lyrics, everything is just on point. On Get MuNNY, she remakes Junior Mafia’s Get Money. I honestly like her version even better. I can’t really say enough about how dope this album is. The last two songs are much slower and “spacier” but are still very dope as well. I am not only encouraging people to buy this album but I am insisting that everyone purchase a copy. I am getting mine today. Here is a taste of what Return of the Ankh is offering, Turn Me Away(Get MuNNY). Make sure you watch the video for Window Seat too. Ms. Badu is the BADDEST.
Erykah Badu “Window Seat” Video
Back on my BS again, I mean, back on my Work ish again. To many’s surprise, for my morning drive, I forwent my typicaly does of hip hop and listened to Chicago’s number one station for hip hop and hits B96. I didn’t really hear any hip hop but I heard a whole lot of pop music including Lady Gaga and Pitbull. I’m not sure who starts their mornings that way but it was NOT fun. I think I made record time to work today. Thankfully, I had Erkyah Badu’s new video, Window Seat stuck in my head from yesterday. This video seems to be causing some controversy but I think it’s pretty cool. Ms. Badu always keeps it fresh though. Not to mention, her body is still BANGING. Shout out to Erykah Badu. If you don’t already have her new album, New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, go get it now. In the meantime, check out Window Seat. Happy Monday.
Erykah Badu “Window Seat”
I promised I would try to give everyone some more “substantial” music throughout this Gorrila Zoe Challenge, well here is a new joint, Window Seat from Erykah Badu from her album, New Amerykah Pt.2: Return of the Ankh which is supposed to drop March 30th. This song has a really good vibe to it. Miss Badu is definitely going to have a great 2010. Check out Window Seat, then get back on the Gorrilla Zoe Challenge
The Hypnotic
“The fact of the matter remains that I miss The Hypnotic”
I got a little zone out music for everyone this Friday. I have been listening to Illadelph Halflife since yesterday morning and taking some time to really soak it in again. The whole album is incredible but I always find myself coming back to The Hypnotic. My favorite Roots’ joints are the storytelling joints about females. Black Thought always tells an incredible story. Whether it’s Silent Treatment, The Hypnotic, You Got Me or Break You Off, those joints are always my personal favorites. I suggest going back to listening to all The Roots albums in succession and hear the quality and the progression on every single project. The Roots are one of a kind. Enjoy The Hypnotic as well as the remix featuring D’Angelo and Miss Badu. Two classic cuts. I don’t k now what the beat is on the beginning of The Hypnotic but the real song comes on at the 20 second mark.
Distant Relatives
I stumbled upon some wonderfully, great news today on Hip Hop DX. The trackl ist for the album, Distant Relatives from two of music’s icons, Nas and Damian Marley was released and the album looks INCREDIBLE. With features like Erykah Badu, K’Naan, Snoop Dogg AND Stevie Wonder, Distant Relatives is sure to be one of the best albums to come out in a few years. Stephen and Damian handle the majority of the production BUT 9th Wonder worked on a joint as well. If you can’t tell how I excited I am, let me know you, I am SUPER geeked. Check out the track list.

I Wanna Be Where You Are

I didn’t get a chance to see Erykah Badu perform with The Roots on Jimmy Fallon Friday but I know they killed it. Check out the audio of the tribute they did to Michael Jackson. Usually I don’t fuck with tribute songs but c’mon it’s The Roots and Erykah Badu. They know what they are doing. The video footage should be up tonight or tomorrow and I will definitely put that up soon.
He USED to Love H.E.R.
Remember when Common started dressing real suspect? Erykah must have that BOMB.
I am never one of those people who says something is or isn’t hip hop because the music and the culture has become a melting pot of so many different aspects. HOWEVER(and thats a BIG however), Common seems to have lost his mind. Although I have been feeling this way since that bullshit ass single and album, Universal Mind Control, I saved my feelings about Common because he has stayed true and put out quality material from the jump. He is one of the most consistent MCs(minus Electric Circus) and has put out album after album of dope music. I feel like he can be mentioned in the same breath as The Roots who rarely disappoint fans and critics. But NOW, I am officially calling Common a sellout. He has a song with the Jonas Brothers. That’s right THE JONAS BROTHERS(like capital letters make the words louder). This has to be some of the corniest shit since Nick Cannon in Love Don’t Cost A Thing(one of my favorite movies of all time). That is like doing a song with Miley Cyrus for the Disney Channel. I have officially given up on Common. I understand he is getting movie checks(good for him) and the check for the Jonas Brothers song was probably rather large but at what point do you say FUCK the money? I mean it is the Jonas Brother’s for fucksake. I can honestly say that I NEVER thought I would have to even mention their name on my site but this shit has got to stop. J Dilla would probably spit in Common’s face right now and take back every song on Like Water For Chocolate. The news continues to get worse and worse. It seems like rappers will do ANYTHING to stay relevant regardless of how ridiculous it looks. Common is the same cat who doesn’t agree with interracial marriage and once called Ice Cube a bitch and now this fool is on a record with the Jonas Brothers. I am in utter disbelief. I am ashamed of you Common. I hope Serena Williams slaps the SHIT out of you for this one. Check out the song if you can even stomach this collab.
