Weekly Numbers 7/7/2010

Eminem is still sitting on top of the charts this week and reached platinum in just two weeks of sales.  Congrats to Em, that’s pretty incredible considering the state of things.  Drake is sitting at number two and sold another 100K this week.  Love King, The Dream moved 58K in his first week.  That is kind of surprising considering that R&B seems to be the way to sell records nowadays.  Here is the top

It’s kind of amazing that you can be on the charts by only selling 2500 copies in a week.  I feel like I could do that out of my bookbag.  Dwele sold 14K in his first week.  The Roots moved 21,000 in their second week.  One of those copies will be mine next week.  Whoever Blaze Ya Dead Homie is moved a few more units this week.  Big Boi is on the chopping block next week.  Hopefully he can do at least 100K but I’m predicting 60-75K.  Regardless, go buy his album.

W.ants W.orld W.omen

I wanted to give everyone a taste of something a little different today.  The J Dilla and SV affiliate, Dwele, dropped his new album, W.ants W.orld W.omen, on Tuesday and I have listened a couple times.  I was first introduced to Dwele back in high school when he opened for Slum Village at The Granada in Lawrence, Kansas.  It was kind of crazy because no one really knew who he was.  I had this song called “Too Fly” that I still love to this day.  Anyway, his new album sounds pretty good.  I’m not a huge Dwele fan but I like some of his stuff for sure.  I really like a lot of the production on his new album.  Slum Village makes a nice features as done David Banner and DJ Quik.  It’s a nice change of pace from the onslaught of hip hop that I have been listening too.  I definitely think it’s worth a few listens.  Dwele is also featured on Kanye’s new single, Power.  Dwele is looking like Kanye’s go to guy for singles.  Flashing Lights and now Power.  Very cool.

Power

It was only right to post a Kanye and Amber picture especially with the release of the new Kanye jam, Power.  Kanye CLEARLY has too much power when he starts singing in autotune, rockin sweet haircuts and dating females like her but after hearing his new joint, Power, he is forgiven.  Not only is he forgiven, if he was here right now, I would give him a big high five because Power is CRAZY.  His new album, Good Ass Job should hit stores later this year and I promise it will be crazy.  DJ Premier, Pete Rock and Rza are all rumored to be working on it.  Sounds like Kanye took my advice and went back to making that real hip hop shit.  Anyway, this is an incredible return for Yeezy and I must say, I feel like a proud dad.  Check out Power below.  Good shit Ye.

First off, RIP J Dilla and RIP Baatin.  This video just leaked today as an introduction to Slum Village’s new album, Village Manifesto.  Baatin was a part of the album and plays a leading role in this video.  I’m sure more videos and work will surface after Tin’s death but this is the first new Slum Village stuff I have seen/heard since Baatin passed away.  The video is directed by Dwele and features many cameos including a few of my ex girl friends.  Once again, RIP Baatin and RIP J Dilla.  Slum Village forever!!!!!!
