After the fire incident at Diddy’s Dirty Money party, I almost went out and bought the album. I don’t know if I should listen to Michael Jackson’s new album though, seeing how 50 Cent is on it. Just in case you haven’t seen the chick’s hair catch on fire at Diddy’s party, you have to watch it below. Shout out to Kevin Hart. ”Did the camera catch that????????” Happy Holidays.
The last several days are starting to become even more overwhelming with new music STILL dropping. Pill dropped a new mixtape and Drake’s debut album, Thank Me Later sprung a leak last night. Hopefully they will all be amazing. Today I am bumping the new Rick Ross, The Albert Anastasia EP, which serves as a prequel to his album, Teflon Don. I don’t know what it is about Rick Ross but I just can’t quite become a fan. His last album had some dope cuts but I still just can’t find it in me to give him any type of credit. Now with Diddy as his “manager” and him becoming to new Biggie(HAHAHAHAHAHA), Ross is set up to become one of the biggest stars out. Hopefully Teflon Don will be better than The Albert Anastasia EP because this project gets one listen from me and a quick toss out the window. Sorry Ross but I need to hear something more from you. I’m sure the album will have some bangers though. Let’s see if Diddy’s involvement makes this project one of 2010′s best. Oh yea, for all of you unfamiliar with the REAL Albert Anastasia, he was a mob boss and head of the Gambino Crime Family and original Murder Inc. Here is the man the FAKE Rick Ross is comparing himself too.
At least Stacy Dash made it into his video, Super High.
I’m trying to keep it fresh over in this neck of the woods and take a break from my typical morning theme music. One of the most “interesting” characters in the music thing in the last few years is a female by the name of Janelle Monae. I’m not sure if she is really this odd or if it’s just for music purposes but every time I see her she I am confused. However, she is down with Big Boi and Outkast and has been on some dope records. Apparently she has also caught the attention of Diddy and her new album, The ArchAndroid(whatever that means) is dropping on Big Boi’s label, Purple Ribbon and Bad Boy. I honestly only know Janelle Monae from her features on Outkast and Big Boi tracks so, I was pretty curious to hear what her album sounded like. After being halfway in, I kind of dig it. The song with Big Boi, Tightrope is really dope. I need to give the whole project a few more listens before my final verdict but I like what she has to offer. Plus, she is originally from Kansas City so, it’s love all day from me. Check out her official video for Tightrope with Big Boi and take a listen to the whole album.
I figured since I’ve made it through 24 Gorilla Zoe mixtapes and finally caught up, I would take this Friday back to the classics. Yesterday I listened to both discs of Biggie’s Life After Death. As if I need to say anything about Biggie, he is STILL the man. Joints like Somebody’s Gotta Die, Kick In The Door, You’re Nobody, Ten Crack Commandments and many others have withstood over a decade of time and would still be classics if they dropped today. I’m not a big fan of Puff’s adlibs and some of his touches on the album but Biggie keeps it fresh regardless of what song he is on. It’s always refreshing for me to go back and listen to albums like this at different times periods in my life because I pick up new stuff every time and find myself enjoying it so much more than I remembered. It’s still a shame that Biggie and Pac didn’t get to have a full run with their careers but maybe their music and their lives wouldn’t have held as much weight. So, Happy Friday to everyone. Enjoy some classic shit from one of hip hop’s icons. RIP Biggie.
To my own suprise, I have FINALLY caught up with Gorilla Zoe and have listened to ALL 24 days of mixtapes. Yesterday and today, I made it through 22, 23 and 24. Now, I’m just waiting on Zoe to drop the 25th today. 22 was called Space Chips, 23 was My Block and 24 was Book of Zoe. Space Chimps is an absolutely ABSURD cover. I fucks with Zoe(well his art guy) for that one. Book of Zoe features some weird rock sample shit. My Block has a joint with some singer and T.I. I was surprised to hear that shit. Shout out to T.I. for being out. We are all looking forward to new music. Anyway, here are the 3 latest mixtapes from Zoe.
If you can only get to one of these mixtapes, please listen to the intro on My Block from Big Block. His rant is hilarious. Apparently, Diddy called him the Diddy of the show. I’m not sure if that’s a compliment especially after hearing 24 of these mixtapes.
First of all, Diddy formed a new group with himself and some of the Making The Band broads called Dirty Money. I think we all know that Diddy hasn’t ever seen dirty money and if he has it was Biggie, Shyne or The Lox’s. Second of all, I thought Jay-Z deaded autotune? Well, how come his best bud is jacking his beat AND using autotune AND puts Biggie’s verse on his single twice?????? Now if anyone else doesn’t see what is wrong with the state of things, then ya’ll are in straight denial. Diddy is dropping his album, Last Train To Paris, sometime in the next year but I can only hope that it gets shelfed indefinitely. The problem is, Diddy has so much money and is such greedy bastard that he has to contaminate the already toxic airwaves of the internet, radio and TV with MORE bullshit. And just because he is Diddy, we are forced to see it. What is even worse is cats like Jay who claim to love this thing we call hip hop, let that shit slide. Why won’t someone check Diddy’s ass? Maybe because Diddy doesn’t “write rhymes, he writes checks.” This is a gosh darn shame if you ask me. I am sure everyone has seen Diddy’s new single Angels featuring Biggie and Dirty Money but in case you refuse to watch it, here is another opportunity to act like it doesn’t exist. I was at a beat battle recently and the manager of A and R’s for Diddy was one of the judges and apparently he was looking for production for Last Train To Paris. He said it was real pop sounding so I am a little curious why Angels came out jacking Jay-Z’s Where I’m From. He’s not even going hard on it, he is SINGING. I want to thank Kanye and Lil Wayne for this one. T-Pain is right, let him have his shit because this is what happens when “the best rappers alive” get a hold of autotune. Also, can it be called a feature if the person being featured is already dead? Like clearly Biggie is unaware of this song and if somehow he hears it all the way up in heaven, he would probably stab Puffy with an icepick. Let the man be Diddy PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! And for the last time, STOP making music and forming new groups. NO ONE CARES!!!!!!!!!! Check Diddy’s version of “cough up a lung where I’m from Marcy son” if you can stomach it.
“Shawty he got the silky southern drawl, every tooth in my mouth got gold on em all”
One good thing about not finding a lot of new music to listen too is that it has allowed me to reinvest some time and a good listening ear to albums and music that I haven’t heard for a long time. It seems like ever since I really started paying close attention to the details of my own music, I have started doing the same with other artists music. I have found a new appreciation for a lot of artists including some that I have always been fans of. Today, I was going through a CD booklet of albums that I actually purchased and came across Cee Lo Gree and His Perfect Imperfections. I remember listening to it my senior year in high school/freshman year in college but not as keenly as I did today. I can’t say that I like the whole album but there are DEFINITELY some really ill tracks. Of course his single, Closet Freak is really dope but 2 tracks in particular stand out, Big Ole Words(Damn) and One for the Road. Bass Head Jazz is my shit too. Cee Lo even states in Big Ole Words “Don’t ever think a _____ from the south can’t rhyme.” On both joints, Cee Lo shows why he should be mentioned among the elite MCs. I have been listening to Goodie Mob since Soul Food and of course Southernplayalistic…but it is easy to forget how NICE Cee Lo is on the mic because he seems to just sing now. The majority of his solo albums and his work with Gnarles Barkely, Cee Lo RARELY spits a bar, so I think people forgot how ill Cee Lo really is as an MC. I am gonna go back and listen to his second LP, Cee Lo Green is The Soul Machine and see what old gems I can unearth. If you are not familiar with Cee Lo the MC, listen to Big Ole Words and One for the Road. I guarantee you will never take Cee Lo lightly again. I wish he would pick up the mic again and go in over some classic hip hop shit for all the nonbelievers. He could STILL shut down almost every MC in the game. I think people get it twisted because he dresses like a woman sometimes.
While I was reading the CD bookley, I thought it was funny that Cee Lo shouts out Diddy aka Sean Combs for Sean Jean for having the freshest shit out in stores. He also shouts out KRS One, Wu Tang, Rakim and ME(jk). Oh yea AND Cee Lo produced most the that album too!!!!!
