Nas and Damian Marley “Land of Promise” Music Video

I got an unexpected treat this morning while on HipHopDX when I saw Nas and Damian Marley’s new video for Land of Promise.  This joint, Friends, Nah Mean and Africa Wake Up are my favorite songs from the Distant Relatives album.  I’m really excited to see a video for this joint.  I’m glad to see the promo is still going on for Distant Relatives.  I’m hoping they shoot or have shot a few more videos for the album and hopefully another tour.  Stephen Marley has a new album coming out this year as well so it will be a good couple years for the Marleys.  Check out Land of Promise below and if you haven’t heard Distant Relatives, you need to do that now.

Distant Relatives “Trenchtown Rock”

The third and final installment of B+’s video series documenting Nas and Damian Marley’s Distant Relatives showcases some footage from the video shoot for Promise Land.  I can’t wait to see the video for that.  Promise Land is one of my favorite songs on the album for sure.  Check out Trenchtown Rock.  Another awesome behind the scenes view of two of music’s greatest.

Distant Relatives “Hope Road”

One of my favorite albums of 2010, featuring two of music’s most honest and talented artists, was Damian Marley and Nas’ Distant Relatives.  Both artists managed to incorporate their styles into an incredible album that supported a good cause.  Damian Marley has always been one of my favorite artists so, a collab album with Nas had to be sick.  HipHopDX got the opportunity to shoot some behind the scenes video for a three part series about the two artists, their album and document the whole process.  Below, is a link to the first video, Hope Road.  The video was filmed by B+.  Check out an excerpt from HipHopDx about B+’s journey.

I had been in some of the legendary sessions that became the Distant Relatives album at the Henson Studios in L.A. – even managed to get my jacket taken by Oliver Stone in the process (but that’s another story). The album itself is in so many ways historic and to be able to watch the music unfold was a true pleasure.

In the summer I was lucky enough to be invited on the road to document the UK and Ireland part of the European tour. Again it was an amazing experience. Damian’s birthday party thrown in London by Nas has to be one of the all time craziest fun times of my life, not to speak of the after-hours session in Dublin in a Kenyan bar.

But this trip to Jamaica was really a special end to 2010 for me. Basically it was a Tuesday to Saturday morning run. Nas had gotten there on Monday and we flew in from Miami with Damian and Stephen – fresh from studio sessions that provided the soundtrack for the trip on Tuesday evening.

That first night at Hope Road set the tenor of the rest of the trip. Nas was as relaxed as I’ve ever seen him, Damian was very at home and the surroundings at Bobs House – now the Marley Museum (see this clip to see Bob on those same steps being interviewed by a over-zealous racist Australian) were filled with history, characters and spirit.

If you don’t have Distant Relatives, buy it now.  Its incredible, classic music from two of music’s most honest and creative voices.

The Diary of Alicia Keys

Despite being a severely heartbroken when I found out that Swizz Beats was dating and had gotten my future ex-wife, Alicia Keys pregnant, I am still a big fan of her music, in particular, her sophomore album, The Diary of Alicia Keys.  She has an amazing voice, writes amazing songs, plays the piano and has a nice hip hop style to her joints.  I didn’t love her last two albums like the I love Diary.  Almost every song on the album is amazing.  When she did unplugged for MTV and played her hits including the song Diary, I melted.  Alright, I’m sounding like a schoolboy with a crush.  Anyway, some of her songs have been stuck in my head since last night, thanks to my roommate so, enjoy a few songs from her album, The Diary of Alicia Keys.

And a bonus from her Unplugged Performance featuring Mos Def, Common and Damian Marley

Damian Marley “Just Ain’t The Same”

I was doing my little one, two last night, looking for some new music and came across Damian Marley’s new song on HipHopDX called “Just Ain’t The Same.” Needless to say, it has been on repeat. 2010 was a beautiful year for Damian dropping his collab album with Nas. One of the best albums of the year for sure. Hopefully this track is precede a new Damian solo album as well. Welcome To Jamrock is still one of my favorite albums of all time. Check out “Just Ain’t The Same” and as a bonus, Stephen and Damian’s joint, Jah Army, which is really nice too.

Big Boi moved another 8K, despite having the best album of 2009, he can’t quite manage to do legendary numbers.  Damn shame.  The Roots and Damian Marley are still moving a few units as well.  So far the best albums of the year go, 1. Big Boi, 2. The Roots, 3. Damian Marley and Nas.  The Roots and Damian Marley and Nas are pretty much tied for 2nd in my opinion.  Until next week…..
