Weekly Numbers 4/28/10

I have a bit of depressing news this week after seeing some of the soundscan numbers.  Little Brother’s FINAL album as a group moved less than 5K.  Damn.  I thought they had more of a stronghold than that.  Maybe their numbers will go up in the next few weeks.  Anyway, the usual suspects are up top.  I wish I could give you all the numbers from soundscan every week but billboard requires a monthly fee and I don’t want to pay that just to see artists flop.  Check the top.

I must say that it’s nice to see Cypress Hill make a “strong” return with 18K.  Despite having a dope album, Devin The Dude moved just under 7K and Kurupt put out a project too.  I was totally unaware of that.  Anway, until next week………….

Temples of Boom

“I’m havin illusions, all this confusion’s drivin me mad inside”

I just finished up my third Cypress Hill album of the week in correllation with some recent news I received.  This time it was III: Temples of Boom.  Once again, I am impressed.  Cypress Hill seemed to stay true to themselves and their sound while still making a dope record.  My shit is Illusions.  I remember this joint from a while back and it is still a dope record.  I’m interested to hear what their new album, Rise Up is going to sound like.  They got some DOPE ass producers on the album.  Their video for It Ain’t Nothing is pretty nice too.  Check it out below as well as Illusions.  Tomorrow, I will be OFFICIALLY done with all 29 mixtapes in the Gorilla Zoe Challenge.  Cheers to me.

The music video for Illusions is SICK too.

Black Sunday

As promised, I am currently listening to Cypress Hill’s second album, Black Sunday.  The album starts out perfectly with I Wanna Get High.  I think this is where Cypress Hill really established a strong fanbase with their weed smoking anthems.  Black Sunday flows really well from start to finish and B-Real seems to just be getting better from the first album.  They found a formula that really works for them.  Each joint on Black Sunday can stand alone but fits the album very well.  The intro joint is still my favorite one though.  B-Real comes with it.  Check out I Wanna Get High.  Look forward to a new joint from yours truly tomorrow, as well as III: Temples of the Boom.

Cypress Hill

Happy Monday and happy “birthday” to myself.  For those of you who don’t know, I am officially 26 today only because February 29th doesn’t exist this year.  I know I still have 4 more mixtapes to go on the Gorilla Zoe Challenge but a real cool opportunity came up on Friday, so I am taking a break and bumping some Cypress Hill for the next several days.  I won’t let the cat out of the bag yet but it will all make sense later.  I figured I would start at the beginning in Cypress Hill’s discography, so all weekend I bumped their first album, Cypress Hill.  I can’t front, I never really listened to Cypress Hill but I am a familiar with their sound.  Their first album is a perfect introduction though.  The album is almost 20 years old but still is really dope.  Shout out to DJ Muggs because the production is on point and B-Real is a very capable emcee.  Sen Dog brings a dope feel to the album as well.  Although he is not as lyrically inclined as B-Real, he has a dope voice.  Of course, To Kill A Man is a classic but my shit is Hand on the Pump, perhaps because Red and Meth used part of that song for Da Rockwilder.  I hope everytime takes the time to reintroduce Cypress Hill into their musical palate.  I have started listening to Black Sunday as well and it’s sounding really fresh.  Here is Hand on the Pump and stay tuned for some more news very soon.
