The Element of Freedom

“And the day came when the risk it took to remain tightly closed in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to bloom.  This is the element of freedom.”

I wanted to start the day off, the same way Alicia Keys new album begins with some inspirational words for everyone.  I like that quote a lot.  I wonder if she wrote it.  So I have had two full days to listen to Miss Keys new album, The Element of Freedom and let it sink in and marinate a little bit.  Typically by this time in her album release, she has already released two singles that I absolutely love.  This time, I’m not a huge fan of either of her singles, Doesn’t Mean Anything and Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart.  I think more so than her, it is the production.  After listening to the album, I find myself feeling the same way.  I love the sound of her voice, her lyrics are always on point but this time, I do not enjoy the production with a couple exceptions.  My favorite song actually features MikeSchpitz.com’s most frequently hated upon artists, Drizzy Drake.  Now Drake only sings like 2 lines in the whole song but I am wondering if he might have written it.  Even this song, I’m not a huge fan of the production. I can put my finger on it but the album just sounds light like it has no edge which for me, that is one of the parts I loved about Alicia Keys so much.  She always incorporated hip hop elements in her music.  This album has almost none of that.  That being said, it’s a very solid album but just not my cup of tea.  DAMN it pains me to say that.  I will be interested in reading reviews and seeing her album sales though.  To top it off, her video for Try Sleeping With  A Broken Heart is WACK.  Her lover Swizz Beats does contribute a joint that features Beyonce that is pretty cool.  Sounds like a Beyonce song though.  Check out Unthinkable(I’m Ready) featuring Drake.

Man even her cover art is disappointing.  I still love you though baby.

The REAL Winner

MTV Video Music Awards Show

I know the whole world is buzzing about Kanye’s RUDE interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the VMA’s last night but I am going to go ahead and say that shit was planned.  First of all, Beyonce’s video is NOT that serious and I HIGHLY doubt that Kanye felt THAT strongly about it.  I personally think it was all set up by MTV and Taylor Swift was in on it.  It was probably Kanye and MTV’s way of turning it into the Kanye show without having him perform.  Everyone knows Kanye deals with his emotions AND his rhymes like a child so something like this is WAY too obvious.  And of course, the ever so gracious Beyonce just happens to win video of the year and invite Taylor back up to speak.  Something schmells fishy to me, maybe that’s Kanye’s vagina.  If anyone recalls the MTV Video Movie awards, Eminem “left” mad because Bruno’s balls fell in his face.  MTV has a HISTORY of trying to do ‘SHOCKING” things.  I think this was an obvious attempt to poke more fun at Kanye’s award show ettiquette.  I think Kanye should have won the award for best female video for Love Lockdown because he is CLEARLY the biggest female in that category.  Anyway, what do ya’ll think??????  I read on Bossip that they are claiming he was drunk because he had a bottle of Henny.  I think that is how it was SUPPOSED to look.  We already know Beyonce is a bad actress and her “surprised” look was about as good as her movie Obsessed.  Peep the clip.

BTW Lady Gaga is a MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Just kidding I don’t know that for a fact.

Where Am I????

Redman

It has been quite the eventful weekend with all that was going on in sports, music and pop culture.  First off, shout out to Michael Jordan for being inducted into the basketball hall of fame.  He was clearly the center of attention that night and his acceptance speech, or whatever it’s called, was pretty funny.  He talked a little bit of shit and even joked(I hope) about coming back to play again.  Tiger Woods DOMINATED the FedEx cup this weekend and the VMA’s sucked again.  I’ll save my thoughts on Kanye, Beyonce and Taylor Swift for a separate post today.  I was glad to see Eminem win best male hip hop, even though he didn’t have much competition.  I was also glad to see Lady Gaga win best new artist over Drake, Asher Roth and Kid Cudi.  No offense to anyone but Lady Gaga was the CLEAR winner.  Shout out to Wale for holding it down with his band the whole show.  I’m looking forward to Attention Deficit, I MIGHT even go out an purchase it.  Jay Cutler’s debut was a TRAGEDY.  I am sure the city of Chicago is stirring with disappointment towards the Bears new poster child.  Happy Monday to all.  Tomorrow, I will be releasing the first of two remixes featuring The League of Ordinary Gentlemen.  The Get Up Remix features verses from Add-2 and Adullessence.  Make sure you tune in tomorrow to check it out.  This morning for the drive to work, I took it back to the New Jersey Drive soundtrack.  I have actually never listened to it except for Outkast’s Benz or Beamer, which is a classic cut.  So far, on Volume 1, I am not too attached to any of the songs except for a few.  My favorite aside from Outkast is Redman’s Where Am I?  You can always expect Redman to drop heat especially back in the day.  Dude is one of a kind and is a beast on the mic.  That whole style thing that I always talk about, Redman OWNS that shit.  No one sounds like FunkDoc.  I got about 8 more tracks to listen to on Volume 1 and all of Volume 2 but I like a few songs.  The Heavy D joint is cool and the Queen Latifah joint is pretty ill too.  Once again, Happy Monday to all and make sure you tune in tomorrow for my new joint, The Get Up Remix featuring The League of OG’s.

Catered to Me

Destiny's Child

Destiny's Child

After catching some flack from my friend for yesterday’s long winded post(MIKE no one wants to read about your entire weekend), I decided to keep my posts a little shorter and straight to the point(if possible).  So this morning, my drive to work was a little different because I was practicing memorizing my 2 new songs, one for Rob Bates’ project and one for the rerelease of Love Potion Number 9th.  So I didn’t get a chance to listen to anything else on my drive except some Gucci Mane, OJ Da Juiceman and Lil Kim.  However, I have had Destiny’s Child’s Cater 2 U stuck in my head since yesterday.  Any of you who know me personally might also know that I am kind of a Destiny’s Child Stan.  I have been rocking DC since that joint with Wyclef.  My guy Kinder actually made a DC Greatest Hits CD back in high school that we used to bump all the time.  Anyways, Michelle’s part in Carter 2 U has been constantly running through my head.  I love her voice and of course I love Beyonce and Kelly too.  I even miss the other 3 lost members.  I hope they are well.  So get like me and let Destiny’s Child Cater 2 U or at least close your eyes and pretend like I do.
