One of music’s more interesting artists, Janelle Monae is making a lot of noise this year with the release of her album, The ArchAndroid and her lead single, Tightrope featuring Big Boi. I got the chance to see her open for Erykah Badu and she was very dope. Recently she put out a remix and a video for her single, Tightrope featuring two of hip hop’s most interesting cats, B.o.B. and Lupe Fiasco. I can’t lie, B.o.B. kind of kills this record. I look forward to seeing what Janelle Monae does in the future because she can sing her ass off and I think she is originally from Kansas City. Check out the video

Weekly Sales 6/30/10
This week has been perhaps the biggest week in sales for quite some time. As you all might know, Eminem dropped his album, Recovery last week and managed to move almost 750K in its first week. It is the highest first week sales in nearly two years. I honestly am pretty shocked by these numbers, i figured Drake would do more than Eminem but MAN, props to Em. Drake is now at number 2 on the charts and broke the gold mark in just two weeks. The Roots also hit the charts at number 6, moving 51k. Here is the top.

B.o.B. is still doing well. His feature on Big Boi’s new LP is pretty dope. Props to B.o.B. Hopefully Nas and Damian Marley can keep crawling towards gold. It’s still a little disheartening that The Roots still only moved 50K in their first week especially after touring the world for years and putting out dope album after dope album. Oh well, until next time, BIG shout out to Eminem.
Weekly Numbers 5/19/10
I kind of wanted to skip over this weeks numbers just to see how many units Nas and Damian Marley would do as well as Reflection Eternal. No real big surprises here. B.o.B. moved another 27K, Ursher is almost at 700K and those durn Black Eyed Peas are are over 2.5 MILLIE. Here is the top.

It’s interesting to see that the man responsible for B.o.B.’s UBER pop single only managed to do 5K his first week. Probably because no one knows who he is. Seems like that album was rushed out a little. The underground emcee, Sage Francis moved just under 4K in his first week. I am guessing that there is NO hope underground rappers. Trina isn’t doing to tell considering she has a single with Keri Hilson AND Diddy. I am encouraging everyone to go out an purchase 3 copies of Distant Relatives and a couple copies of Reflection Eternal’s album, Revolutions Per Minute. Any predictions for next week??????
Weekly Numbers 5/12/10
It has officially been a week since last week’s sales were tallied up so, time for this weeks sales numbers. It looks like hip hop’s stronghold on the top 10 slot’s has slipped a little. B.oB. broke 100K and is sitting in the 12th slot. Ursher is still doing pretty well at number 10 and the baddest bitch, Trina debuted at number 13, moving 32K. Bone Thugs is right below Trina at 14 moving 30K. Here is the top.

I am kind of proud of B.o.B. despite having a pop album. He did 100K in two weeks. I definitely think that is a success. 8Ball and MJG dropped a new record and sold 13K probably right from the trunk. Well, that’s all for this episode……until next week…….Nas and Damian Marley drops May 18th so go get that.
Weekly Sales 5/5/2010
I am dedicated this weeks numbers post to my man, Andres. After convincing me that B.o.B.’s album wasn’t bad, better than Wale’s and that it would move Lil Wayne numbers, this is my chance to boast. Although B.o.B. did debut at number one, he moved 85K in his first week. Definitely not bad for a newcomer in these times but DEFINITELY not Wayne numbers. Good thing for Nothin On You or this album would have moved less than 50K. Here is the top.

Although Devin’s numbers aren’t showing it, Suite #420 is a dope album. It will definitely be one of the most slept-on of the year. Ursher is still holding it down. BEP are STILL running shit and Wu-Massacre is 2,500 closer to 100K. Until next week……..
The Adventures of Bobby Ray
Happy Hump Day. I’m still bumping that new, new the whole week. This time, it is the debut album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray from Atlanta rapper, producer, musician, B.o.B. I first heard B.oB. a few years ago when his single, Haterz Everywhere bubbled for a while. After being featured in some LRG campaigns and dropping various songs and mixtapes, his buzz was about as high as it could be for a debut album. Matched with the success of his single, Nothin’ On You, The Adventures of Bobby Ray became one of the biggest albums to drop in 2010. Now that I got that out of the way, time for some good old fashion hatin’. I can’t say I was expecting much after hearing Nothin’ On You, which just happens to be one of my least favorite songs EVER. I understand the purpose of the record and I guess it’s hard to really hate when all the females I know LOVE that shit. After talking with one of my guys, he encouraged me to check out the album and that it was pretty solid. So, I put in the album and that hate immediately started. I guess maybe I was expecting(craving) some hip hop shit from an artist that people keep comparing to Andre 3000(please stop making that comparison, one has nothing but classics, the other has two radio hits), but the album was pretty much straight pop music. There is just too much “lightness” on the album for my liking. Bet I Bust with T.I. is hands down the hardest and best song(in my opinion). The rest of the songs just felt like they would be featured on a Nickelodeon show. Even Lupe’s appearance on Past My Shades didn’t cause me to rewind the track. Maybe I was expecting something different from B.o.B. that simply isn’t him, as an artist. The album just feels really catered to the pop audience and has no edge to it whatsoever. Especially in a time when R&B singers have more edge than rappers, I was hoping that B.o.B. would bring something different. I think dude is definitely talented and maybe this is the lane he wants to be in but The Adventures of Bobby Ray will be getting NO burn from here on out in my tapedeck. PS, I am tired of rappers talking about being from another planet and living on spaceships and all that bullshit. If you recall, Outkast dropped ATLiens back in 1996 so, ya’ll are 14 years late and lack a classic debut album. Come back to earth and make some real shit. I’ll stop hating now, here is Bet I featuring T.I. I can’t way for King Uncaged.
Oh yea, Eminem is featured on the album too. Sorry I forgot to mention that.
