And if you had questions about Andre being the best!
Big Boi “You Ain’t No DJ” Music Video featuring Yelawolf
Here is some more Friday heat for everyone. Big Boi’s new video dropped for his joint, You Ain’t No DJ featuring Yelawolf. The track is also produced by Andre 3000. I would have loved to hear him kick a verse but regardless he killed the beat. It’s still holding true, Big Boi has the album of the year. Kanye better drop some HEATERS because that Charlie Wilson and Beyonce song won’t do it. Check out “You Ain’t No DJ” below.

The Making of Outkast’s Aquemini
I came across a cool article on HipHopDx via Creative Loafing ATL about The Making of Outkast’s album, Aquemini. The article gives some interviews with different people involved in the creative process of each song. Many of the tracks producers, musicians and of course Big Boi and Dre, provide some incredible insight about the album. I don’t like to hearing or seeing too much about the making of tracks and albums only because it takes away the “magical mystery” of the song but this article is really cool. Here are a few exerpts about my favorite tracks. I forgot about the drama surrounding the title of their single, Rosa Parks.
The Making of Outkast’s Aquemini
“Aquemini”
Produced by OutKast for Earthtone
A three-dimensional aural massage with a mystical hook that gave cause to question everything you ever thought you believed and to believe nothing you never thought to question
Mr. DJ: On the album before Aquemini, me and Dre grew dreads. We went to Jamaica one time and took our cornrows out and we swam in the ocean, and we decided we were never going to comb our hair again.
After having dreads you realize how people discriminate against you just because of the way you look. Towards the end, around the time we got ready to do this album, we just cut our dreads off. So that’s what Dre was referring to when he says: ‘Is every nigga with dreads for the cause?/Is every nigga with golds for the fall?” He’s just explaining that you can’t judge a book by its cover.
Andre 3000: I was a young man searching, a young black man, so I was looking into Rastafarianism, Islam, whatever. I started to notice that all the stories were similar, it was more about a mutual respect and exchange of energy. When you rap and say anything kinda conscious, all the conscious people approach you. So after ATLiens I got it all – from books on sex to [metaphysics] and religion. But you also get introduced to a lot of fake phony ass people, and I addressed it in the song. You find some of the fakest people with dreads pouring oils on you. And it’s really kind of mind-blowing when you’re a young person and you start to find out some of this is bullshit, so then you’re just out there searching.
Big Boi: ‘Aquemini’ was just the meshing of both worlds, with me being an Aquarius and him being a Gemini. It was subtle on ATLiens, but by the time we got to Aquemini it was like we had two different visions that were [parallel]. So the thing with us was to always show the team.
“West Savannah” feat. Sleepy Brown
Produced by Organized Noize
Originally recorded for OutKast debut, “West Savannah” drips with Organized Noize’s snappy-nappy funk and a youthful-sounding Big Boi giving listeners a too-grown-for-his-own-good guided tour through his native Savannah stomping grounds.
Big Boi: A lot of times when we record, we over record. Dre also had a song called “Bow Your Head.” It was the counterpart to “West Savannah,” so with different albums we might throw like a bonus in there for the listeners, to give them something that’s nostalgic of the times and Dre said, “We need to throw that ‘West Savannah’ on the record.” So I was like, “Shit, let’s do it.” And you know that’s my hometown. I’m from Savannah, Ga. and there’s a lot of people there that I love and my family is there, so I’m all about it.
Andre 3000: Sometimes songs are done ahead of their time. It was done during Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. Some songs sit, like “Hey Ya” was done three years before it came out.

Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty
Happy “Monday” to everyone. I am sure most people are dragging ass today from the extended holiday weekend. I know today was harder than most days to get up and get to work. Hopefully noboby blew their hand off this weekend trying to throw bottlerockets or M-80′s. Today is one of the biggest days in hip hop in YEARS. As you might have seen, I have been hyping up Big Boi’s first solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty for a while now. This album was supposed to drop several times but the wait was definitely worth it. I purchased my copy from Target this morning for $9.99. It was going for $13.99 at Best Buy. The Deluxe version is also available, which includes a DVD with the 5 videos Big Boi has released and two bonus tracks. I recommend buying the deluxe version if your not on a budget like me. However, count my unit towards the 60K he will see in the first week. Only if Big Boi could do Eminem numbers, there might be hope for quality hip hop regaining its stronghold. Props to Eminem though. Anyway, like I have been saying all along, Big Boi’s album is CRAZY and will definitely be album of the year. I know Kanye is supposed to drop in September and Detox MIGHT come up but they won’t be fucking with SLLF. I think a lot of people were doubting Big Boi’s ability to drop a classic without Andre in the mix but Big Boi does just that. I think most people will stray away from calling it a classic but I guarantee everyone will STILL be bumping this shit ten years from now. There isn’t one song that I skip. Even the Jamie Foxx song, produced by Lil Jon is sick. Big Boi just furthers Outkast’s legacy in hip hop and does so by doing what they always do, reinvent themselves. For those who think Andre is the key to their success, listen to this album and to Speakerboxxx. Big Boi not only holds his own but provides exactly the same amount of innovateness and skills that Andre does. I doubt anyone will rate this album perfect but I’m not sure what else Big Boi could have done to make the album better. Maybe add Cee Lo and Andre to the mix but label politics seem to forbid Andre’s guest verses. Sir Lucious Left Foot just cements my point that Outkast is the greatest hip hop entity of all time. Go out and copy Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty today. Here are the videos that have dropped so far. Enjoy and Happy Tuesday.
Shutterbug
I hope you all don’t mind but I’m gonna flood the site a little bit today with some dope music. First off is Big Boi’s new video for the single, Shutterbug. At first, I wasn’t sure how to feel about this song but after listening more, the beat is BANANAS and the video hits it out of the park. I can see why Andre told Big Boi to make this a single. I love to see creative shit and Outkast NEVER disappoints. It should be a lesson to rappers. It doesn’t matter how long you have been doing this, your music should always be fresh, new and GOOD and their is NO reason that the videos should be terrible. BE CREATIVE. Shout out to Scott Storch on the beat. Sir Luscious Left Food shall be out SOON!!!!!!
Spineless
Anyone remember THIS Jay-Z??
I wanted to add my tw0 (well maybe ten cents) on Large Marge’s post about Jay-Z and DOA. First off, the beat is ill. No Id is that dude. However, it makes me upset that people are giving Jay-Z SO MUCH credit for “deading” autotune. This song is 2 years too late for autotune and about 6 years too late for Jay-z. I am(or should I say WAS) a Jay-Z supporter even up until Kingdom Come. I would never try to take anything away from Jay and what he has done for hip-hop. Reasonable Doubt is a classic. Blueprint is DAMN NEAR a classic and Black Album is very close as well. Jay has managed to do things that no other rapper has ever done and maybe will ever do again. All the shit he brags about is true. Now enough Jay-Z “dick lickin.” DOA is straight up bullshit and should irritate any fan of hip-hop and Jay-Z for that matter. Not only are his rhymes just not tight or even comparable to his older shit, Jay-Z is simply kicking a dead horse. When autotune started, the shit was wack. When Lil Wayne used it the shit was wack. When Kanye did a WHOLE ALBUM the shit was wack. But not until horrible artists who are just following T-Pain, Kanye and Lil Wayne’s footsteps start using it, does it become unbearable and need to be deaded. Jay-Z not only sat by and LET autotune and WACK music happen he cosigned it and made garbage by his DAMN self. Name the last GREAT Jay-Z song. Dear Summer probably. For three of the “hottest” rappers out to let hip hop get to this point is an absolute travesty. It is clear that “hip hop’s” most recognizable voices and biggest personality only care about one thing. MONEY(and staying relevant). Not only have Jay-Z, Kanye and Lil Wayne done exactly what mainstream has wanted them to do, they have totally neglected the people, the music and the culture that has given them their opportunities. Back to my original point, everyone seems to have forgot that The Blueprint 3 was SUPPOSED to have autotune and was being dubbed as the “hip hop” version of 808′s and Heartbreaks. Now, after the underground and real fans are SCREAMING in agony about hip hop being dead and have practically given up on hip hop, Jay-Z wants to claim he is the one responsible for saving us from autotune. Jay-Z sat back for YEARS and let hip hop get to this point and now he acts like he is our savior. I just wonder how we got to this point, where a genre of music that was BUILT for those without a voice and always went against the grain became so spineless. None of our biggest names will stand up against the machine that we have created and make the music that NEEDS to be made. There is a reason rappers careers only last a few years because everything we see and hear is so manufactured that it’s impossible to tell what’s real. It’s like Andre 3000 said “A real ______ can’t even get a back rub these days.” The only message Jay, Kanye, Lil Wayne, the labels, the radio, the DJs and the websites are sending any one is to lose all sense of self respect, pride and trueness about and cater to what is selling. Let’s be real, if Jay-Z was as BIG and IMPORTANT as he is then he could sell anything. I understand it is an industry but didn’t we CREATE the industry. Aren’t WE the voice of the few. I could go on for days, weeks and years about all the failures our biggest names have had but I’ll save it for another time. The time isn’t now, the time was years ago. But I guess if GOD MC, Jay-Z says the time is now, maybe it is because hip hop has become the music of followers. Like my pops says “I’m not mad just disappointed.” And please understand this isn’t JUST about autotune its about all WACK shit period.
