I mentioned today’s post yesterday but now, officially, I am a Yelawolf fan. I heard about dude a while back when I saw the video for “Mixing Up The Medicine” video featuring Juelz Santana. I thought the song was cool but didn’t do much listening after that. Although I kept up with his progress and his buzz building, I didn’t really listen to him again until his feature on Big Boi’s album, Ain’t No DJ. I thought he sounded fresh on that joint so I figured that I would download his project, Trunk Musik. I bumped it several times this weekend and found myself really enjoying dude’s sound and his style. His flow is bananas too. I really like the countryness he brings to the table, much like Big K.R.I.T. They both seem to be rooted in down south music but still keep it sharp lyrically much like UGK, Outkast and T.I. I think Yelawolf also has a unique place for himself carved out because of his ability to sing a little bit too. I will be interested to see what Yelawolf brings to the table at Interscope especially since Eminem has done so well for the label. I definitely predict another XXL Fresh of the Year knod for Yelawolf next year too.
