Randomly, I stumbled across Wyclef and DJ Drama’s new mixtape, Wyclef aka Toussaint St. Jean, From The Hut, To The Projects, To The Mansion. I had no idea Wyclef was dropping a mixtape or that DJ Drama was involved. Regardless, I was a little curious to see what Wyclef could bring to the table in 2009. It has been a while since I have heard any music from Wyclef that I actually liked. I guess I just miss The Fugees and The Carnival. It’s like they say though, you got to adapt to the times or you will be lost. Especially with the current state of hip hop and pop music, I had NO idea what to expect from Wyclef. So, I listened to the whole tape and, well, ummmmm, I don’t know what to say. I like Wyclef a lot actually but this shit, I just don’t know. The whole style to me doesn’t fit Clef at all. He has some dope concepts on their but the choice of beats and the whole feel of the mixtape is just odd. It flows together pretty nicely but I don’t really like the flow. I’m going to give it another listen but I’m a little taken back by this whole project. The artwork is dope. I like the concept of the record but the execution is just off. I don’t know though, maybe I’m the one who is out of touch. There are a couple joints that I didn’t mind listening too but have no replay value, for me. Maybe my second listen, I will be raving about it. Shout out to Wyclef though for having a dick measuring on contest with Akon. Wait. That shouldn’t be a shout out. Nah for real though, I like Wyclef A LOT as an artist and producer and he seems like an incredible human being with all the philanthropy work he does but I can’t ride with him on this project. I hope he gets back to really emceeing and makes “The Carnival 2,” since sequels seem to be the trend. Anyway, listen to it for yourself. Make sure you go out and buy the new 50 and Wale albums. Shout out to QB and Nascent.
