Shout out to Vanysh for the heads up on this mixtape. I have been hearing about Freddie Gibbs for a little while now and after talking with my buddy Vansyh, he convinced me to check out Freddie’s mixtape MIDWESTGANGSTABOXFRAMECADILLACMUZIK. It’s nice to see Gibbs paying tribute to Outkast. Last night I watched a live music video of Gibbs performing Murda on my Mind, so I figured today was the perfect day to listen to the whole mixtape. I’m sure Freddie probably gets the same type of “looks” when people realize he is from Indiana as I get about Kansas but this mixtape doesn’t sound like some local, low budget ass music. Freddie is a polished emcee with dope beats and dope hooks. I know his music isn’t for everyone especially for those who don’t enjoy listening to “gangster” music or like hearing about drugs, guns, weed and hoes but Freddie’s got heat. I will definitely be checking for any new music he drops. In related news, Freddie Gibbs has a joint on Maja 7th’s highly anticipated album/mixtape called The Breakout which is sponsored by FakeShoreDrive. Another person featured on that album is ME. Maja 7th and I cooked up a track called Going For Broke which will be featured on The Breakout. I will definitely keep everyone updated about that project as well. Maybe there will be a Freddie Gibbs/Maja 7th/Mike Schpitz record in the future. Anything can happen. So, with that said, I encourage everyone to “smoke and ride” and listen to some Freddie Gibbs. It’s beautiful to see the Midwest making good shit.
