Damn, another Monday already??? I got an update from my session with Phys Edison on Friday. We recorded 3 new tracks for our album, Paid Time Off and they are sounding really, really dope. I’m super anxious to get this project completed and out there. We have another session this coming Saturday to record a couple more joints. Stay tuned for updates on PTO in the next several months. Today I decided to an album that has been sitting on my computer for a while but I never gave it a listen. I have heard a fair amount of good things about Torae and Marco Polo’s Double Barrel album, so in typical Mike Schpitz fashion, my listen comes a little late. The album is really solid. Torae is a very capable emcee who goes hard and keeps it fresh, rhyme after rhyme and Marco Polo provides really dope beats. More importantly, the album sounds like an album. It is cohesive and all the songs make sense on the album. The guest appearances fit with the flow of the album too. I think it is definitely a solid project that is slept-on but will definitely continue making it’s rounds the old fashion way, word of mouth. My favorite joint is Wordplay. I think this is where Torae is at his best with the most creative rhymes. I definitely suggest listening to Double Barrel. I’m not sure if anyone else feels it but real rap, real albums and real lyrics are coming back. Shout out to both Torae and Marco Polo. I look forward to hearing more material from both cats. Check out Wordplay
